Prince Harry had a sweet gift for Meghan Markle after their first date. In a post celebrating this year’s Fourth of July, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that her husband brought her cupcakes on their second date in 2016.
Alongside a photo of festive cupcakes, as well as a throwback picture of her and harry and a cupcake he gave her nine years ago, the As ever founder wrote: “Our second date was the 4th of July 2016 and H brought me cupcakes to celebrate. Now, all these years later, our two children are in on the tradition. Happy Independence Day! May your day be as sweet as these cupcakes 🧁.”
Like their first date, Meghan and Harry’s second date took place at Soho House in London. In his memoir Spare, the Duke recalled, “She walked in, wearing a pretty blue sundress with white pinstripes. She was aglow. I stood and said: I bear gifts. A pink box. I held it forward. She shook it. What’s this? No, no, don’t shake it! We both laughed. She opened the box. Cupcakes. Red, white and blue cupcakes, to be exact. In honor of Independence Day. I said something about the Brits having a very different view of Independence Day from the Yanks, but, oh, well. She said they looked amazing.”
Meghan and Harry went on to get engaged in 2017 and married in 2018. The couple celebrated seven years of marriage this past May.
On July 4, the Duchess also shared a video of herself putting together a festive charcuterie board. “Red, white and blue….and easy to do! Happy 4th, friends 🇺🇸 Be safe, have fun ❤️🤍💙,” she captioned the post.
Meghan’s lifestyle brand As ever additionally posted a video of the With Love, Meghan star gearing up for the holiday, which was simply captioned: “Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸.”
Meghan and Harry, who are no longer working members of the royal family, reside in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. At the 2024 New York Times DealBook Online Summit, the Duke admitted (via PEOPLE), “I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here. It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live.”
Prince Harry added, “I feel as though it’s the life that my mom wanted for me. To be able to do the things I’m able to do with my kids that I undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the U.K. — it’s huge. That is a fantastic opportunity and I’m hugely grateful for that.”
