The Prince of Wales became the first member of the British royal family to meet with President-elect Donald Trump following the 2024 presidential election. His Royal Highness spent time with the 45th president of the United States in Paris, where they attended the re-opening ceremony of Notre-Dame.
While in the City of Light, Prince William met with President Trump at the UK ambassador’s residence. The British Embassy Washington revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that the “warm, friendly meeting lasted around 40 minutes,” and that “the pair discussed a range of global issues but focussed on the importance of the UK/US special relationship.”
The Waleses’ social media accounts shared photos from the Prince’s trip to Paris, including a photo of William and President Trump. “A wonderful event to celebrate the reopening of the @notredamedeparis. It is an immense achievement to renovate such a beautiful and culturally important building,” the post was captioned. “Thank you and well done to everyone who has been a part of this project. Also a pleasure to spend time with @emmanuelmacron and @realdonaldtrump 🇫🇷🇺🇸.”
President Trump spoke with The New York Post about his “great talk” with the heir to the throne, revealing that he asked the Prince “about his wife [the Princess of Wales] and he said she’s doing well. And I asked him about his father [King Charles] and his father is fighting very hard, and he loves his father and he loves his wife, so it was sad.”
“We had a great talk for half an hour, a little more than half an hour. We had a great, great talk,” he added.
The president-elect also praised Prince William, calling him a “good looking guy.” “He looked really, very handsome last night,” President Trump said of the Prince of Wales. “Some people look better in person? He looked great. He looked really nice, and I told him that.”
Several other royals were in Paris for the service on Dec. 7. Prince Albert of Monaco, Belgium’s Queen Mathilde and King Philippe, and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg were also in attendance and were seen greeting and chatting with President Trump.
