The 2026 awards season is entering its closing phase, with the spotlight now on the 2026 Actor Awards, officially called the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The Actor Awards honor “outstanding motion picture and television performances from the previous calendar year,” and “are the only top industry honors where actors vote on actors, selected entirely by SAG-AFTRA members, which boasts over 118,000 eligible voters,” according to organizers.
Each year’s ceremony is viewed as a key indicator for the upcoming Academy Awards, scheduled for March 15. That’s largely because performers make up the biggest voting branch within the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The overlap between SAG and Oscar acting nominees is often significant. In 2025, the two groups shared four of five nominees in the best actor, best actress and supporting actor categories, and three of five in supporting actress.
This year, the most nominations — seven, a record — went to Paul Thomas Anderson’s action dramedy “One Battle After Another.” Close behind is “Sinners” with five nominations, while “Hamnet” and “Marty Supreme” each earned three.
“One Battle After Another” is competing for best ensemble — SAG’s counterpart to the Oscars’ best picture — alongside “Sinners,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme” and “Frankenstein.”
On the television side, Apple’s “The Studio” received the most recognition, landing five nominations, including best comedy ensemble. The Netflix limited series “Adolescence” and the HBO drama The White Lotus followed with four nominations apiece.
Beyond the competitive races, Harrison Ford will receive the 61st SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award. He joins recent recipients Jane Fonda, Barbra Streisand, Sally Field, Helen Mirren and Robert De Niro.
