Prince Albert of Monaco and Princess Charlene often put on family displays with their two adorable children, twins Jacques and Gabriella, but did you know that the 67-year-old royal is a father to two older children, too?
He has a daughter called Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, who was born on 4 March 1992 to mother, Tamara Rotolo. She grew up in the US and only met her dad for the first time in 2004, when she was 11 years old. Since, we have seen Jazmin join her father in Monaco on occasion and it is believed she still lives stateside.
Then, there’s son Alexandre Grimaldi-Coste, born to air stewardess Nicole Coste in 2003, who Albert dated for around five years before marrying Princess Charlene. Alexandre has spent many years living in Knightsbridge, London with his mother, but flew the nest to New York for career opportunities, working as a model. A Tatler interview reveals he was living inside the Four Seasons hotel while scouting out a suitable apartment.
As both Jazmin and Alexandre were born out of wedlock, they are not eligible to be in line for the throne, meaning Albert’s son with Charlene is actually the current heir, aged 11.
Albert’s comments on his family life
In an interview with US broadcaster, Graham Bensinger, Prince Albert II spoke about his royal family. He says he has a “heightened sense of responsibility” raising children. When quizzed about how he creates a “normal” life for his twins, he mentioned their second property “in the mountains” which is “far enough away” with different areas for them to “play and learn about nature” away from the royal palace.
Speaking about his own childhood with father, Prince Rainier III, and mother, Grace Kelly, he told Hello Monaco, that his “father was a little intimidating [and] demanding [but not] harsh” meaning he went to his mother more.
Albert’s grand home
The family’s main residence is the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, aka Palais Princier de Monaco. The royal couple said ‘I do’ within the walls and the already stunning space was transformed with a red carpet, velvet chairs and an abundance of flowers for the special occasion. Their wedding photos reveal a double sweeping staircase going up to the second floor where there is a covered, arched walkway.
Outside, the family have an impressive outdoor pool, making the property look like a five-star hotel. We’re sure Charlene enjoys this particular feature, considering she’s a former Olympic swimmer.
We occasionally see the family stand on their royal balcony, just as the British royals do, as the building itself is a popular tourist attraction and many royal onlookers gather at the special location.
