Who is Caroline Kennedy?
Caroline Bouvier Kennedy was born on November 27, 1957, in New York. Her father was the 35th US president John F. Kennedy and her mother Jacqueline Kennedy, née Bouvier.
She is the only surviving member of the White House Kennedy family and has worked in different political positions throughout her life, from serving as President of the Board of Directors of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation to acting as the US ambassador to Japan.
Caroline lost her father at just 6 years old when he was assassinated
Childhood
Caroline was the only daughter of John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy and sister to John F. Kennedy Jr. When she was just 6 years old, her father was assassinated on November 22, 1963. Her mother died 31 years later on 19 May, 1994, a year after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
In 2014, in a video shared by The Washington Post, Caroline praised the example set by her parents. “I feel so fortunate to have had such great role models,” she explained, ” I hope that I have been able to pass some of the lessons they taught me on to my children.”
Caroline has been married to designer and artist, Edwin Arthur Schlossberg for 40 years
Marriage
Edwin Arthur Schlossberg was born in New York in 1945. He married Caroline in 1986 and the couple welcomed three children. Edwin is best known for work in cultural design projects like interactive museums and public spaces.
Before his museum work, Edwin worked as an artist, producing poems typed onto aluminium foil. Examples of his artwork are kept at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. In 2004, he was awarded the National Arts Club Medal of Honor and 7 years later was appointed to the US Commission on Fine Arts by then-President Barack Obama.

Career
According to her profile on the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum website, Caroline is currently the US Ambassador to Australia, a role she has held since 2022. She was also the U.S. Ambassador to Japan between 2013 and 2017.
She is the Honorary President of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation and acts as a member of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award Committee. During her tenure as Vice Chair of the Fund for Public Schools between 2002 and 2011, the organisation raised over $280 million to support reform in public schools.

Family life
During her marriage, Edwin and Caroline welcomed three children: Rose in 1988, Tatiana in 1990 and Jack in 1993. Their eldest daughter Rose has worked on several film and media projects and lives in California with her longtime girlfriend Rory McAuliffe who she reportedly wed in 2022.
Caroline’s second daughter Tatiana worked as a journalist for publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe. She married husband George Moran in 2017 and the couple welcomed two children, son Edwin and a younger daughter. Tatiana sadly died in 2025 from acute myeloid leukemia at just 35 years old. Caroline’s youngest child, Jack Schlossberg, announced in November 2025 that he was running for Congress.

Caroline Kennedy has come out in support of her son Jack’s campaign to join the US House of Representatives, appearing alongside the aspiring politician on CBS News Sunday Morningwith her husband Edwin.
She said in support of her son: “He’s willing to take the consequences of what people think. And we need people who can reach a new generation. We’re not doing it with just boring talking points.” She added, he “has been able to connect with people. He’s been able to show that he thinks for himself.”
