Coco Jones is gearing up to appear on one of, if not the most watched broadcast of the year: the Super Bowl.
The “ICU” singer, 28, is part of the slew of artists who are warming up the stage for Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show, and will be performing at the game’s pregame show, singing alongside deaf music artist Fred Beam “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” which is often referred to as the Black national anthem.
The song was initially written by James Weldon Johnson in 1900 as a poem set to music by his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson. By 1917, the NAACP began recognizing the hymn as the Black national anthem.
It was first written with the intention of commemorating President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, though it later took on themes of civil rights and social justice in light of the Reconstruction era and the passage of Jim Crow Laws throughout the South.
Luckily for Coco, she is no stranger to the spotlight, and was only 12 years old when she appeared on the competition series Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing, which kicked off an acting career with Disney Channel before further pursuing her music career. Learn all about her below.
How Coco got her start
After appearing on Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing, Coco was signed to the company’s Hollywood Records, and appeared on several Disney Channel shows and movies, including So Random!, Good Luck Charlie, and Let It Shine.
Her career outside of child stardom got its breakthrough in 2022, when she released “ICU,” her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 which was later nominated Best R&B Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, among five total nominations she received that year, including Best New Artist.
Her debut album, Why Not More?, came out just last year, and that too received Grammy recognition: its lead single, “Here We Go (Uh Oh)”, was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
Outside of music, Coco has also stayed in touch with her acting career, and from 2022 to 2025 she appeared on Bel-Air, a re-imagination of the Will Smith sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Coco’s personal life
In July 2025, Coco announced her engagement to basketball player Donovan Mitchell, who currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The couple began dating in 2023, and made their relationship public the following year.
Speaking with People at the most recent Grammys, giving an update on wedding planning, the bride-to-be shared: “I’ve worn dresses, and I’ve planned events and all of those things before in my job, but this is like an indescribable feeling to be planning a whole wedding,” adding: “It’s amazing. I’m really excited.”
She said she hopes the festivities will remain “intimate,” noting: “Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I was going to be this performer, but I really wanted that moment to be just for me, me, not about views or clicks or sales … so I hope that it can be really intimate, really special.”
