The Prince and Princess of Wales will have to think carefully about the futures of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, a royal author has claimed.
Simon Vigar, who is author of the Four Wives of Windsor, told HELLO!‘s A Right Royal Podcast that Prince William and Kate’s youngest children will need to play an important role in the years to come.
He told us that there “must be a way” Charlotte, 11, and Louis, eight, can support their older brother, Prince George, 13, when he becomes King.
Hopefully, it would lead to a better “Spare” dynamic than seen with William and Prince Harry, who ultimately stepped down as a working royal.

Simon said: “The Sussexes clearly believed, or Harry believed, that there could be a third way. At the Sandringham Summit, he was told by Elizabeth, Charles and William, ‘You’re either in or you’re out.’ At which point he said, ‘Okay, we’re out.’ He saw the door and he went for it.
“But there has to be a better way of doing this. There must be a way that Charlotte and Louis can support their brother in the decades to come and still have their own lives.”
“And I should think, I don’t know this for sure that Catherine and William are talking about it, but William keeps dropping these hints about change, doesn’t he?”
Prince Harry’s claims he wrote his memoir to protect Charlotte and Louis
The Duke of Sussex, 41, has claimed that he wrote his 2023 memoir Spare to protect his brother’s children.
In an interview with Bryony Gordon published on Substack, he said: “I know that out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare. And that hurts, it worries me.”
Charles supposedly said to his wife Princess Diana on the day of Harry’s birth: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare – my work is done.”
It means that Charlotte and Louis would be considered “spares” as they are not expected to inherit the throne.
