Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Princess Lilibet – who will turn five in June – is said to have never met one of her closest relatives. The young royal joined her parents on her one and only trip to the UK four years ago – but since her birth in 2021, it’s believed Lilibet has never got to meet her uncle, Prince William.
Harry and Meghan travelled with both their children to the UK in June 2022 for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. During the family’s visit, LIlibet, who was one at the time, met her great-grandmother and her grandfather King Charles for the first time in-person. However, it’s believed the Sussexes and Waleses did not meet in private during the trip, which royal author Russell Myers explained their limited contact in his new book, William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story.
“As Harry and Meghan welcomed the birth of their daughter Lilibet on 4 June 2021, William and Catherine sent a gift and a card of congratulations – although that would be the extent of their contact,” he wrote.
He continued: “On 4 June Harry and Meghan threw a small birthday party for their daughter’s first birthday, creating an opportunity for the Queen to meet her great-granddaughter for the first time. Despite the warmth extended to the monarch, the Sussexes did not meet William and Catherine – relations between the couples remained incredibly fractured.”
William met his nephew Archie
The Prince and Princess of Wales met their nephew, Prince Archie, shortly after his birth in May 2019. The royal couple met their nephew in-person at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where Harry and Meghan lived at the time, a week after he was born. Their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, were not present for the meeting.
William and Kate have previously wished both Archie and Lilibet happy birthday publicly. For Lilibet’s first birthday in June 2022, the royal couple wrote: “Wishing a very happy birthday to Lilibet, turning one today!” followed by a balloon emoji.
A month earlier, they had wished Archie a happy third birthday with a photo showing members of the royal family at Archie’s christening in 2019. “Wishing Archie a very happy 3rd Birthday today,” the caption read.
Harry’s relationship with William
Harry has spoken publicly about his rift with his family, including brother William, over the years. Since leaving the royal family and relocating from the UK to the US in January 2020, Harry has raised his two children with his wife Meghan in their Montecito mansion.
In a 2023 interview with 60 Minutes, Harry said at the time that he doesn’t keep in touch much with his brother.
“Currently, no. But I look forward to… I look forward to us being able to find peace,” Harry said when asked if he speaks to William. When host Anderson Cooper pressed on how much time it had been, Harry added that it had been “a while.”
In the same interview, he said of his relationship with his brother: “My brother and I love each other. I love him deeply. There has been a lot of pain between the two of us, especially the last six years.”
