Princess Beatrice’s future hangs in the balance following a difficult year for the mother of two, after it came to light that her parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, had ties to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The 37-year-old will likely celebrate her birthday a little differently this year, amid her parents’ scandal and her purported marriage troubles with her husband of six years, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
A difficult year
According to royal expert Andrew Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of The House of York, Beatrice’s 38th birthday on August 8 “will not be an easy one” due to “the state of her title, her marriage and her business activities,” as he told the Daily Mail.
“Much has changed for the York family since Beatrice’s last birthday,” he explained. “Her father remains under, in effect, house arrest in Norfolk with the possibility of being charged with sharing confidential information, her mother probably still in hiding abroad.”
“The publication of my book Entitled and Virginia Giuffre’s memoir Nobody’s Girl, the release of damning material about the family from Jeffrey Epstein’s papers, the de-princing of her father and his eviction from Royal Lodge and questions raised over the daughters’ subsidised accommodation at St James’s Palace and Kensington Palace though not working royals.”
The former Prince Andrew was arrested on his birthday in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office, but was shortly released without charges. He was also forced to move out of Royal Lodge in Windsor and relocate to Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate, and was stripped of his title in November 2025.
Andrew has denied any wrongdoing in relation to Jeffrey Epstein and his appearance in the Epstein Files, as has his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who is reportedly lying low in Switzerland.
Beatrice’s birthday plans
Beatrice’s past birthdays were often marked with lavish parties and sun-soaked getaways, like her 18th birthday at Windsor Castle that saw guests dressed in Victorian-themed clothing.
“The Victorian theme was chosen because Beatrice was born at 8.18 pm on August 8, 1988. Guests included Harvey Weinstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein,” Andrew shared. Ghislaine was Jeffrey’s right-hand woman in running his sex trafficking ring for decades.
Marriage troubles
Meanwhile, Beatrice and her husband, with whom she shares her kids Sienna, four, and Athena, one, are reportedly navigating marriage troubles amid their difficult year. Neither Beatrice nor Edoardo posted a tribute on their wedding anniversary on July 17, despite this being the norm in previous years.
“Happy 5th Anniversary to my incredible partner, the most beautiful and amazing wife,” Edoardo wrote in a touching social media post in 2025. “I cherish every moment we’ve spent together and am deeply grateful for our journey. Here’s to countless more years filled with laughter and tons of love!”
The couple were spotted together at Peter Phillips’ wedding to Harriet Sperling in June, appearing in good spirits, yet have laid low ever since.
A new low
To top off Beatrice’s difficult year, a recent report has shown her popularity amongst the British public drop to new lows. According to YouGov, 34% of people have a negative opinion towards Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie, ranking only above Andrew and Meghan Markle.
