Amy Schumer is opening up about her recent wellness journey after losing 50 pounds. While appearing at a May 17 live event for the podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat hosted by Amanda Hirsch, the comedian revealed that she had a “botched colonoscopy.”
During the taping, Schumer, who is now a single woman, said that she felt “happier than I’ve ever been before.” After Hirsch referenced her noticeable weight loss and asked if her newfound happiness had anything to do with “being really hot.” Schumer got candid, “I actually had kind of a botched colonoscopy, so I’m not feeling very sexual,” she shared.
During a colonoscopy, doctors use a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera to examine the inside of your large intestine and rectum. Schumer, thankfully, did not go into further detail about what made it a botched job.
Amy, who shares 7-year-old son Gene with ex-husband Chris Fischer, kept the mood light, teasing the crowd, “That’s another thing you’re not going to have to worry about for 15 years.”
© GettyOver the last year, the comedian has spoken openly about the medical issues behind her changing appearance and weight loss, especially after online speculation intensified over her face looking swollen in early 2024.
She explained in Jessica Yellin’s “News Not Noise” newsletter that she found out something was wrong with her health because of the comments. “Aside from fears about my health, I also had to be on camera having the internet chime in,” she told Yellin. “But thank God for that. Because that’s how I realized something was wrong. … The internet is undefeated, as they say.”
Schumer revealed she had been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome, a hormonal disorder caused by elevated cortisol levels that can lead to weight gain, puffiness, fatigue, and serious health complications if untreated.
© Jamie McCarthy“I didn’t lose 30 lbs, I lost 50,” Amy wrote in an Instagram post last December, shutting down assumptions that her transformation was purely cosmetic. “Not to look hot, which does feel fun and temporary. I did it to survive.”
She added that the disease “makes your face extremely puffy and can kill you,” noting that once the condition cleared, her appearance naturally changed as well.
Amy has also been direct about using Mounjaro as part of her health journey, and plastic surgery. “Sorry for whatever feeling it’s giving you that I lost weight. I’ve had plastic surgery over the years, and I use Mounjaro,” she added.
“I have been working to be pain-free, and I finally am,” she shared in a November Instagram update, where she also discussed improvements in her endometriosis and chronic back pain. “I no longer have Cushing syndrome, so my face went back to normal. I am grateful to be strong and healthy, especially for my son.”

On December 12, she announced their breakup on Instagram, calling it “amicable.” “Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years,” she wrote. “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.”
