Brooke Shields has spent decades in the spotlight, but one thing she says still hasn’t changed is her fear of going too far with cosmetic procedures. It’s no secret that people start going under the knife young in Hollywood, but Shields has been able to avoid temptation, especially after being unhappy with the minor things she has tried.
In a recent interview with People, the 60-year-old actress and model admitted that while plastic surgery can seem “tempting,” she still has no plans to “go under the knife” because she’s “too scared.” When opening up about beauty, she explained, “For me, beauty meant being smart and being strong, but I acknowledge that there are changes.”
“I fully understand that beauty is so much more than just not having wrinkles. Listen, I work out, I get face peels, I mean, I haven’t gone under the knife. It seems tempting but I’m too scared!” She said. Her comments come just ahead of her 61st birthday. The icon will celebrate on May 31.
© John LamparskiBut for longtime fans of Shields, the honesty isn’t exactly surprising. The Blue Lagoon star has been unusually candid for years about aging, beauty standards, and the pressure women face to stay frozen in time.
In a 2024 interview with Allure, she pushed back on the backhanded compliments women often receive as they age, recalling how people tell her, “‘Oh, you’re still beautiful!’ What do you mean, still?”
She also explained that she’s not interested in pretending time has stopped, adding, “I am more youthful now than I was in my youth.”
© James Andanson“You look at the women who are over 40 — their history, their vibrance, their intelligence, their responsibility, their adaptability,” she continued. “They’ve raised families; they’ve run companies; they’ve been in multiple different types of relationships; they kept moving forward. We were the Amazons!”
At the same time, Shields has never pretended she’s completely anti-beauty treatments. During Glamour’s 2023 Women of the Year coverage, she admitted she had tried Botox before, though not always successfully. “I’m scared of not looking like myself,” she shared, joking that injectables once gave her a “Spock eye.”

In a 2023 interview with RealSelf, Shields explained that while procedures can help some people feel more confident, comparison is where things become dangerous. “You own your body, you own your face, you own your skin,” she said.
She’s also been outspoken about the increasing normalization of cosmetic work among younger generations. In that same interview with RealSelf, Shields admitted she worries about teenagers feeling pressured to change their appearance too early, calling the trend “brutal.”

I want to chase now,” she told Glamour.
