Charlize Theron is sharing her admiration for Matt Damon‘s hard work. The two actors have known eachother throughout their careers, working on different projects together. Their most recent collaboration is their largest yet, with the two featured on “The Odyssey,” a project that’s primed to become this year’s biggest movie. Damon lost a significant amount of weight and put on a lot of muscle for the part. It’s an effort that didn’t go unnoticed by Theron, who had some hilarious commentary.

Matt Damon went through a dramatic physical transformation for the role

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Charlize Theron shared her admiration for Damon. “I’ve seen him without all of that suit on. He’s incredible. Incredible,” she said.

Theron couldn’t help but add, “I’m like staring at him weirdly. I’m looking at his a** right now. I shouldn’t do that! That’s just wrong. He looked amazing, yes.”

Damon went from 200 pounds to 167 for the film, paying special attention to his fitness in order to commit fully to the part of Odysseus, a storied Greek hero.

“It was more about just getting really, really physically fit, which just really involves changing your diet, just a whole lifestyle change,” he said in an interview with PEOPLE. “You have to just be very, very intentional about everything you’re putting in your body.”

Theron plays Calypso, a sea nymph who heals Odysseus through his journey in the aftermath of his travels. In the original Homer text, she keeps him imprisoned for seven years. Theron’s performance adds some much-needed complexity to the part. “I was given a chance to do something that I haven’t had a ton of opportunity to do, because she’s a little bit of everything,” she said in an interview with Elle. “That’s what’s so beautiful about her. And a lot of people on their own cast me in this movie, and they cast me very differently. It was a real opportunity that Chris [Nolan, the director] gave me to do something that didn’t feel like typecasting.”

Damon’s hard work got the approval of his family

Over the past weeks, the cast of “The Odyssey” has been discussing the film and what went into making one of the biggest films ever made. “This movie was by far the hardest movie and the most challenging movie I’ve ever been a part of,” said Damon to PEOPLE.

Still, the hard work paid off, with him receiving a stamp of approval from his daughters, who are some of his toughest critics. “She saw The Odyssey, and at the end of it, she actually turned to me, and she said, ‘Dad, I’m proud of you,’  he said. “She’s never said anything like that because we joke around a lot, and so at that point, I was like, ‘I’m good.’”
