Chaz Bono, the son of Cher and the late Sonny Bono, has tied the knot with Shara Blue Mathes in a romantic ceremony at Los Angeles’ iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The couple said their “I do” on Sunday, March 8, capping off a love story that stretches back decades to their teenage years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Bono first met Shara more than 40 years ago as teenagers. While they were childhood acquaintances, their romantic relationship did not develop until they reconnected in January 2017, and they have been inseparable ever since. Their journey is a rare example of a lifelong connection that ultimately led to marriage.
The Hollywood Roosevelt provided a glamorous backdrop for the nuptials, with a dress code described as formal Hollywood glamour. Chaz looked dapper in a classic tuxedo with a black bow tie and a boutonniere of purple calla lilies.
Shara opted for a romantic lace gown with a V-neckline, long sleeves, and a full skirt with a flowing train, complemented by a veil. Her hair was styled in soft waves, and she carried a sophisticated bouquet of purple orchids, completing a timeless and elegant bridal look.
Family was front and center for the celebration. Cher attended from the first row, witnessing the couple’s romantic walk down a black aisle decorated with glowing red candles and delicate floral arrangements.
The wedding also marked the blending of families. Cher’s other son, Elijah Allman, whose father was Cher’s late ex-husband Gregg Allman, and Shara’s son Cooper, 25, from a previous relationship, were both present.
Chaz and Shara maintain a close bond with Cher, regularly appearing alongside her at public events. In December of last year, the couple joined the singer at the Saban Theatre for the launch of ‘Cher: The Memoir, Part 1.’
The trio also appeared together on the red carpet in October 2024 at the premiere of the horror film ‘Little Bites,’ produced by Cher and Chaz, during Beyond Fest.
This wedding celebrates not only the union of two longtime companions but also the culmination of a decades-long connection. Their story, from teenage friends to life partners, highlights a rare and enduring romance in Hollywood.
