The legal battle between Christian Nodal and Universal Music continues, and there’s a new development. The singer’s lawyers have formally stepped down before Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR). Despite this turn of events, the same lawyers will continue defending his parents, Jaime González and Cristy Nodal.
According to Ventaneando (TV Azteca), the dispute remains active, even though lawyers Rodrigo Flores Calderón, Pablo Flores Calderón, Daniel Hernández Silva, and Edgar Fernando Torres Ibarra officially notified their withdrawal as Nodal’s representatives.
This means the singer now faces the task of assembling a new legal team. Documents obtained by Ventaneando read: “In this act, we revoke our role in defending the investigated Christian Jesús González Nodal, remaining solely as private defenders for the investigated Silvia Cristina Nodal Jiménez and Jesús Jaime González Terrazas.”
While Nodal is now without legal representation in this matter, the lawyers will still represent his parents, as previously mentioned. On September 24, 2025, the FGR accused Nodal and his parents of allegedly falsifying and using fraudulent documents.
According to the prosecution, the case revolves around claims that the singer and his family transferred copyright rights to certain works, and later presented themselves as the rightful owners of material they no longer controlled.
On November 18, following a 17-hour hearing at Mexico City’s Reclusorio Oriente, a judge determined there wasn’t enough evidence to formally charge Nodal or his parents.
In other words, the case wasn’t officially opened, but the legal process is ongoing. After leaving the detention center, Nodal appeared smiling for the cameras.
“This is ongoing. We have a civil lawsuit that they tried to turn into a criminal case. We’re in a fight,” he said about the legal battle. “I’m fighting for my masters, that’s what we’re really fighting for.”
He added that the long hearing was worth it to prove his innocence. “I’ve always believed in justice. I want to thank everyone for being so patient. I truly believe that actions speak louder than words. Today was a very long day, 17 hours, but it was worth it, because we were not formally charged.”
