Cristiano Ronaldo is still playing at the highest level in soccer; that’s no accident. Ronaldo has been playing for the Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr since 2022, and remains captain of the Portuguese national team, which he’s currently leading at the 2026 World Cup. Through his years in the sport, he’s become an icon, known for his commitment to his physique and fitness.

Ronaldo is known for his impressive physique

Born 41 years ago in Funchal, on the Portuguese island of Madeira, Ronaldo has worked relentlessly to get where he is, and a big part of that comes down to his daily habits. His social media is packed with his workout sessions, sometimes alongside his oldest son, Cristiano Jr., and his partner, Georgina. But his disciplined approach to food is what really stands out.

What does Cristiano Ronaldo eat for breakfast?

Diet is one of the most important parts of Ronaldo’s habits. His goal is to maintain muscle mass, with breakfast playing a key role. Avocado is a daily staple for him, delivering steady energy due to its fats, satiety, and heart health support.

Alongside avocado, Ronaldo starts his day with two other staples: coffee and eggs. Coffee is loaded with antioxidants and micronutrients, giving him the necessary energy to train. In moderate amounts, the drink has been linked with a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cognitive decline. Eggs, meanwhile, are packed with quality protein.

What does Portugal’s captain eat?

According to Giorgio Barone, the Sardinian-born chef who worked privately for Ronaldo during his days in Juventus, Ronaldo keeps numerous foods off the table, including refined sugar, dairy, bread, and anything that’s processed.

Ronaldo eats five to six times a day, sticking to fresh, minimally processed, protein-rich foods, and treats rest, hydration, and regular exercise with the same attention as what’s on his plate.

His go-to foods for lunch and dinner include fish, chicken, beef, eggs, avocado, rice, and coconut oil. At midday,  his meals are made up of vegetables with chicken, beef, or fish, delivering protein, fiber, minerals, and vitamins to fuel peak athletic performance. Dinner sticks to the same formula, with the protein source switched up from lunch to keep things varied.

His all-time favorite dish is bacalhau à brás, true to his Portuguese roots: a classic combination of salted cod, eggs, and shoestring fries, one of more than a thousand cod recipes in Portugal’s culinary tradition.

What’s left for Ronaldo to accomplish?

Ronaldo is on the hunt for his first World Cup

After a career full of trophies, the World Cup is still missing from Ronaldo’s collection. He’s also closing in on the milestone of 1,000 career goals. No one knows exactly when he’ll hang up his boots, but he’s said more than once that he’ll keep playing as long as his body and performance allow it, and that he can see himself playing professionally for a couple more years. Ronaldo’s discipline, routines, and demanding diet go a long way in getting him there.
