It’s been an emotional stretch for the Royal Family. On Sunday, they flew to New York to watch Spain’s World Cup win, celebrating with the players in an unforgettable moment. King Felipe, Queen Letizia and their daughters, Princess Leonor and Sofia, then returned to Madrid. On Monday, they welcomed La Roja to their nation’s capital, posing once more with the world champions and their trophy.

These have been intense days for fashion, too, with Queen Letizia’s choices supporting her national team. She’s earned praise from the international press for her looks, especially the red dress with a triple meaning she wore for the final against Argentina.

This Thursday, she returned to her usual round of engagements in the capital, with two audiences early in the morning. Letizia set aside the red that’s defined her recent looks and opted for something completely different: a summery look.

Letizia wore a black dress with white embroidery and a full skirt. It’s a flattering, sleeveless style with a closed neckline and a waist tie from Antik Batik, a label known for its bohemian, well-made pieces. The brand describes the fabric as a “light and airy” cotton, and at launch, it was also available in the inverse colorway, with a white background and black detailing.

The queen first wore it at the Women, Sport, and Society panel, held alongside a basketball tournament organized by the Challenge 40 Basket team on September 10, 2025. That sporting occasion now reads as an unmistakable nod to the national team’s recent milestone at the World Cup. Even without the red, she’s still showing that same unwavering support for Luis de la Fuente’s squad, who took Spain to the top of the world this past Sunday.

That wasn’t the only reference to Spain’s win in the queen’s latest look, though. Look closely at the earrings she chose for the morning’s engagements, and you’ll spot a star-shaped charm on each one. The design is inspired by the geometric points of a compass rose, an invention often credited to the Mallorcan scholar Ramon Llull. Each of its eight points marks one of the Balearic and Mediterranean winds, like the mistral, embat, or tramontana, that guided sailors for centuries.

The pieces are handmade in 18-karat yellow gold and set with brilliant-cut center diamonds by Spanish jewelry designer Isabel Guarch. Queen Letizia has worn them ten times before, though none quite as fitting as this one.

For footwear, she chose the quintessential Mediterranean summer shoe for women who want to stay comfortable without sacrificing style, whether they’re out on the street, strolling the marina, or grabbing a bite at a beachside chiringuito: espadrille wedges made of esparto grass. In this case, she repeated a black design from Calzados Picón with black straps that match her dress. She debuted them in Girona just about a week ago, and they already look like a lock to become her go-to shoe for the August vacation season.
