Faith Hill’s real name isn’t what you think it is — and holds a deeply personal meaning for her daughter

Faith Hill has fans around the world thanks to her successful career as a country star – but just how many know her real name? 

The It Matters to Me hitmaker is married to Tim McGraw, and the couple share three daughters, Gracie, Maggie and Audrey. 

However, Faith still goes by the surname Hill – from her first marriage to Daniel Hill – due to the fact her career took off shortly after their marriage. 

Her first name, meanwhile, is Audrey. Like many people, she goes by her middle name Faith as her moniker. However, Faith and Tim named their youngest daughter Audrey – which is clearly a nod to the singer. 

Faith was raised in Star, Mississippi by Ted and Edna Perry, the couple who adopted her just days after she was born and decided to name her Audrey Faith Perry.

On her childhood, Faith told Larry King in 2006: “I actually had a pretty amazing childhood. My family, my mom and my dad and my brothers, they are amazing, very stable, good Christian, God-fearing home, and a great small town of Star, Mississippi. I actually had a really stable childhood.” 

She added: “I was placed into an incredible home that … basically is responsible for the way I am today and the backbone that I have in order to do this for a living, which is a crazy, sometimes unstable world that this projects. 

But the most important thing to me is about my family and that was definitely taught from my mom and dad.”

She met her birth mother and brother in adulthood, and spoke about the decision in an interview with Good Housekeeping. 

“I was adopted into this incredible home, a loving, positive environment, yet I had this yearning, this kind of darkness that was also inside me,” she told the publication.

She began searching for her birth family until she found them, explaining: “The first time I met my birth mother, I just stared at her. I’d never seen anyone that looked anything like me. It was the awe of seeing someone you came from. It fills something.” 

After separating from her first husband in 1994, Faith began dating her now-husband Tim in the spring of 1996. The couple had a whirlwind courtship; they were engaged by June and married that October. 

Their first child, Gracie, was born in May 1997, followed by Maggie in August 1998 and Audrey in December 2001. Faith and Tim raised their daughters in Nashville, where they still live today. All three girls have inherited their parents’ performing talents as well.
