The Instagram account associated with the Obama White House was briefly hacked over the last weekend of May, resulting in a series of unauthorized posts that quickly sparked confusion online. The compromised account, @obamawhitehouse, serves as the official archived Instagram account for the Obama administration.
While former President Barack Obama maintains his personal social media accounts, this profile was used to document White House activities during his presidency and has remained largely inactive since leaving office.
The unusual activity began on Sunday when several unauthorized posts appeared on the account. Among them was an AI-generated image accompanied by a caption that translated to a claim that “The White House is under Shiites’ control.” The hacker also reportedly published multiple Instagram Stories, further confirming that the account had been compromised.
The posts immediately drew attention due to the account’s official status and connection to a former presidential administration. However, the content was removed shortly after it appeared.
© IGA spokesperson for Meta confirmed to TMZ that the company secured the account after discovering the breach. All unauthorized posts and Stories have since been deleted, and control of the account has been restored.
