It has been four years in the making, but we finally have the first images of Kate Middleton on an official international trip outside the United Kingdom. From Wednesday, May 13, through Thursday, May 14, the Princess of Wales is visiting the northern Italian city of Reggio Emilia. The trip marks a major milestone for The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood as the charitable organization of the Prince and Princess expands its reach abroad.
A Highly Anticipated Return to the Global Stage
The visit has generated immense buzz because it is her first working trip overseas since 2022. It is worth noting that all such international engagements were immediately canceled following the Princess’s cancer diagnosis. While Kate has been gradually returning to her official duties, an overseas tour was the final piece of the puzzle. This trip to Italy represents a new chapter in her royal role.

The Princess arrived at Piazza Prampolini in the late morning and was formally received at City Hall by Mayor Marco Massari. Following a private meeting with the Mayor and city officials, Kate discussed the cultural and educational history that allowed the Reggio approach to flourish. She was accompanied by key figures who helped shape the philosophy. After the meeting, she stepped out into the square to greet members of the city council.
