Violet Skies vividly remembers the moment she realised she was about to die.

Driving home from work in her early twenties, she fell asleep at the wheel. Her car rolled across three lanes of motorway traffic, hit two trees, and was left crushed beyond recognition. Emergency services later told her it was “a miracle” she survived. And what happened next was set to change her life forever.

“There was this overwhelming feeling of, ‘Okay… I should have died. I haven’t died. What?’ It was almost like this sense that I had something to fulfil – like it wasn’t my time to go,” says Violet, whose work as an intuitive, healer and guide facilitating women’s circles and retreats all evolved from her near-death experience.

She escaped with very minor physical injuries – but each night, when she fell asleep, she found herself reliving the accident – hovering above the wreckage, watching emergency services gather around her unconscious body.

“Every time I fell asleep, I had the same recurring dream,” she explains in this exclusive interview with HELLO!. “I was looking down at myself in the car – and then this bright violet light would surround the whole scene.”

In the dream, Violet says two light beings appeared, gently guiding her back into her body. “As soon as I reconnected, I would wake up,” she explains.

Doctors later diagnosed the experience as post-traumatic stress – and despite the vividness of the dreams, Violet tried to return to life as normal.

“After the accident, I still resisted it,” she admits. “I wanted to be like my peers, to fit in with what was normal.”

It wasn’t until the death of her beloved grandmother – “a deeply spiritual woman,” says Violet – that everything changed for her.

“She used to say that if everything she believed was real, she would do everything she could from the other side to let me know. After she died, she left me without questionable doubt,” she explains. “That was the moment of complete spiritual awakening.”

The experience marked the beginning of a decade-long journey that would lead Violet to work with what she calls the violet flame – a concept she explores in her new book, The Violet Flame, published by Hay House.

So what exactly is the violet flame?

Violet describes it as “the frequency of transformation” – a way of understanding change, growth and healing that she believes operates on an energetic level. “Transformation is something all of us experience,” she explains. “Everything in life is continuously moving, shifting and evolving – but most of the time we do it unconsciously.”

For Violet, working with the violet flame is about bringing awareness to those moments of change – stepping out of what she describes as “autopilot” and reconnecting with a more authentic version of yourself, beyond expectation, conditioning or fear.

“Whether you see it as spiritual or symbolic,” she says, “the violet flame is about alchemy – transforming one state into another.”

It’s a process Violet says has shaped how she lives, works and relates to the world – and one she believes anyone can tap into, regardless of their spiritual beliefs.

If you’re curious about exploring the idea for yourself, Violet has a simple exercise you can try.

“You don’t need to know anything about spirituality,” she says. “Just take a moment – maybe when you wake up in the morning – to visualise a soft violet light surrounding you. Then place a hand on your heart, take a breath, and say ‘I am’.”

This can help bring you into the present moment. “It reminds you that, right now, you are safe, loved and protected,” she says. “Basically, the violet flame is the frequency of transformation,” Violet explains. “It’s within all of us. When you become aware of it, you stop moving through life on autopilot – and start responding differently. It can transform you, ease your journey through shadow work and reconnect you to your innate wholeness.”

She adds: “We are part of creation, and the violet flame is part of creation. It’s within us. We’ve just kind of forgotten to tend to that flame.”
