Global pop icon Shakira is once again setting the tone for cultural conversation, this time with a bold stance on solidarity among women. During a recent appearance on Spanish late-night show “Al Cielo Con Ella,” the singer opened up about a key message behind her ongoing Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour—and didn’t hold back.

At the center of the discussion is a striking visual segment in her tour: “The 10 Commandments of a She-Wolf.” The concept blends empowerment, independence, and a strong emphasis on unity. One line in particular has captured attention: “A She-Wolf doesn’t attack, she defends.”

Shakira sparks debate with her “She-Wolf” code, saying women who don’t support each other have a “special place in hell,” blending empowerment with unity.

Host Henar Álvarez challenged that idea during the interview, playfully asking, “Are we sure about that, Shakira? You don’t think that sometimes an attack is the best defense?”

Shakira’s response was measured but firm. “No, what I emphasize a lot with these 10 She-Wolf commandments are two things: self-love, which is very important, and love for the pack,” she said. “To not compete, to help and support each other mutually, especially amongst women.”

A Powerful Quote That’s Fueling the Message

Shakira went a step further, grounding her philosophy in a well-known statement from former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. “Like Madeleine Albright said with the incredible phrase, ‘There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women,’” Shakira noted. “I think that’s what I base it on, and that’s the cornerstone of where the 10 Commandments of the She-Wolves are established from.”

Shakira is pushing conversations about female empowerment and evolving beyond individual success toward collective uplift

It’s a sentiment that resonates strongly in today’s climate, where conversations about female empowerment are evolving beyond individual success toward collective uplift. Shakira’s framing positions solidarity not as an option, but as a core principle.

Personal History Adds Context to the Message

The deeper layer to this moment lies in Shakira’s own recent history. In 2022, she and longtime partner Gerard Piqué publicly split after allegations of infidelity involving his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Martí. The breakup dominated headlines worldwide and marked a turning point in Shakira’s public narrative.

While she didn’t directly reference the situation during the interview, elements of that chapter appear woven into her creative output. Fans have pointed to subtle but pointed moments in her tour’s commandments, particularly the ninth: “She-Wolves will not covet their neighbors’ possessions. ¡Claramente!”

The use of “claramente”—Spanish for “clearly”—has not gone unnoticed. It doubles as a wordplay nod to Clara’s name and echoes language from Shakira’s viral diss track BZRP Music Session #53, which became a global anthem of post-breakup reinvention.

From Heartbreak to Reinvention

What stands out is how Shakira has transformed personal adversity into a broader message. Instead of centering conflict, she is reframing the narrative around growth, unity, and emotional intelligence. The “She-Wolf” persona—once associated with independence and sensuality—has evolved into a symbol of resilience and community.

Audiences are increasingly receptive to messages about collaboration over competition, particularly among women in high-visibility industries

Timing plays a crucial role. Audiences are increasingly receptive to messages about collaboration over competition, particularly among women in high-visibility industries. Shakira’s platform amplifies that shift, turning what could have been a personal statement into a widely shared cultural talking point.

Shakira’s “She-Wolf” commandments function as a manifesto. Her stance is that empowerment is stronger when it’s shared.
