Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova’s remarkable friendship is taking centre stage in Netflix’s new documentary, Chris & Martina: The Final Set, released on Friday June 26, 2026.
The moving film charts the tennis legends’ decades-long journey from formidable rivals to lifelong friends, revisiting their extraordinary dominance of women’s tennis as well as the support they found in one another during their separate cancer battles.
Chris and Martina were two of the sport’s defining figures throughout the 1970s and 1980s, facing each other 80 times – including 14 Grand Slam finals. Chris, now 71, won 18 Grand Slam singles titles during her Hall of Fame career and held the world No. 1 ranking for 260 weeks.
While the documentary is primarily centred on her bond with Martina, it has also reignited interest in Chris’s life away from the court. The former world No. 1 has been married three times and was once part of one of tennis’s most famous young power couples.
Before her first marriage, Chris was engaged to fellow tennis great Jimmy Connors. The pair became tennis’s golden couple in the early 1970s, with both stars winning the Wimbledon singles titles in 1974 while they were engaged.

Decades later, Chris spoke out after Jimmy included personal details about their relationship in his memoir, saying she was disappointed that a private and painful period of her life had been made public.
Chris went on to marry British tennis player John Lloyd in 1979. The couple were both major names in the sport, but their demanding careers and constant travel proved difficult to navigate.

A year after her divorce, Chris found love with downhill skier Andy Mill. Martina had introduced the pair, making the relationship a sweet footnote in the story of the friends’ decades-long connection.

Their relationship attracted huge attention, but it proved short-lived. The pair announced their separation in October 2009, with their divorce finalised later that year.
