Dame Joan Collins seems to remain ageless, despite approaching her 93rd birthday on May 23. The icon shared that the secret to her youthful visage and lithe figure wasn’t plastic surgery and intensive workouts, but one simple thing: avocados.
The TV veteran told the Daily Mail that she eats an avocado almost every day to soak up its seemingly endless health benefits.
“The quality of what you eat is as important as the quality of the products you use,” she said. “I try to eat a balanced diet. I think eating avocados is very beneficial, and I believe in taking vitamin supplements – I take Vitamin C, E and omega oils.”
Avocados are incredibly healthy as they contain monounsaturated fats, which helps to maintain cardiovascular health and keeps cholesterol in check.
Avocados also promote satiety, keeping Joan fuller for longer and preventing her from reaching for a late-night snack. The brunette beauty exclusively told HELLO! that she never indulged in said snacks.
“Never, not before I go to bed. I believe our body is a factory; it needs to be fed the right things. If you have a great car, you don’t put inferior petrol into it. I’m very fussy about what I eat,” she shared.
However, Joan can’t resist a bite of milk chocolate. “The cheaper, the better. I treat myself. Why not?” Aside from her healthy diet, the Golden Globe winner also enjoys the occasional dance workout, in honour of her youth.

“My exercise regime has changed a lot over the years. I was very active as a young girl. From the time I was 16, I went to discotheques, dance halls, and nightclubs and danced the night away for hours and hours,” she told Platinum magazine.
“After that, I did a lot of gym work and Pilates, but as you get older, you cannot put that amount of stress on your body, so I’ve cut down exercise significantly. I would still like to dance more, but nobody seems to do that anymore.”
Joan later shared with My Weekly magazine that she had been working with a physiotherapist for several years. “I highly recommend working out with a physiotherapist for older men and women who want to stay fit,” she said. “Half an hour a day is mostly what I do, and I’ve found that it gives me energy.”
The A-lister told HELLO! that she exercised up to four times a week, and no longer felt the need to do strenuous workouts. Joan added that she would never take GLP-1 medications to maintain her figure, referring to brands like Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy.
The medication works to suppress appetite and has taken Hollywood by storm in recent years, with everyone from Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg to Amy Schumer and Rebel Wilson admitting to taking GLP-1s. “I’d never dream of doing something like that. I have seen too many disastrous faces,” she quipped. “I think if you’re going to lose weight, you have to cut down. You want to enjoy your life. You don’t want to live on a celery stick.”
