John Travolta had all the feels after he received some incredible news about his directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach.

The 72-year-old expressed several emotions as he shared a personal message with his fans in a video he posted on Instagram.

John was overcome with joy and excitement as he revealed on Wednesday, June 3, that his movie had spent seven days at number one on Apple TV+.

Speaking directly to the camera, the actor couldn’t wipe the smile from his face as he held up a model of the Super Constellation aircraft, which features in the film.

“I’m very excited to say this is day seven of being number one on Apple TV all around the world,” he told his five million followers.

“I want to thank each and every one of you in all the countries around the world for being so supportive. It’s really because of you that it’s number one, so thank you, thank you, I love you very much.”

Propeller One-Way Night Coach is based on John’s 1997 children’s novel of the same name. “Set in the golden age of aviation, the story follows a young airplane enthusiast, Jeff (played by newcomer Clark Shotwell), and his mother (Kelly Eviston-Quinnett), who set off on a one-way cross-country odyssey to Hollywood, which transforms a simple flight into the trip of a lifetime,” according to the synopsis.

“Between airline meals, charming flight attendants (played by Ella Bleu Travolta and Olga Hoffman), unexpected stopovers, larger-than-life passengers, and a thrilling glimpse at first class, the journey unfolds in moments both magical and unexpected, charting the course for the boy’s future.”

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, with John being honoured with the Palme d’Or, Cannes’ highest honour and the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award.

“I can’t believe this. This is the last thing I expected,” John said while accepting the honour. “You said this would be a special night, but I didn’t think you meant this. This is a humbling moment. This is beyond the Oscar.”

The actor later revealed he had already been emotional simply learning that his film had been accepted into competition. “When Thierry [Frémaux] said it was making history because it would be the first film being accepted that early, I cried like a baby,” he admitted.

John dedicated Propeller One-Way Night Coach to his late son, Jett Travolta, and his late wife, Kelly Preston. The actor’s son passed away in 2009 at the age of 16 after suffering a seizure, while Kelly died in 2020 at the age of 57, two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

“I dedicated the film to Kelly, to my son Jett, to my brothers and sisters, to my mother and my father, because they are the model from which this film was born,” he told Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

When asked how he manages to remain optimistic despite experiencing profound pain, he told the publication that, while “life has certainly tested me,” his “nature is to look for the positive, even in the face of the worst.”

“I’m not made to remain absorbed in the darkness. I can look at the darkness, but I don’t choose to die in that darkness,” he added.
