Letters sent from Josh Duggar to his wife Anna before his sentencing in May 2022 have revealed his state of mind, and where his focus was after being found guilty of receiving and possessing child pornography.
The former reality TV star and his wife sent several letters to each other while Josh was in custody at the Washington County Detention Center in Arkansas. The letters are often not safe for work and highlight experiences he and Anna had together.
“[I] miss you my lover. I miss being in the shower with you scrubbing, I miss watching you try on clothes, I miss watching you being sexy,” Josh wrote in one message that has been seen by People magazine.
Josh regularly asked Anna to send him pictures of her in underwear, and praised her for losing weight, congratulating her for “making the scale numbers lower than expected” in one letter.
In another, he asked her to send a picture of Anna “in your bra and panties” or as she tried on the “go to the private pool for sun” swimsuit. He also suggested she buy a “hot and fun” bikini.
Days before the sentencing of 151 months (approximately 12 years and 7 months) in federal prison, 20 years of supervised release, and $50,000 in fines, he revealed that he had been thinking of “some great ideas” that he and Anna could be taking part in, including “a really awesome foot rub,” “a back rub,” or “something relaxing.”
Josh added: “And then we could really have some fun … once we were nice and relaxed! So many memories flooding my mind right now.”
He also shared that he had been writing while in custody, and one letter hinted that he had been using their marriage as inspiration for his stories.
“[W]ell, I did a lot of writing,” he wrote. ‘It helped. It was inverted, both of us going. Both of us being alone. Both of us enjoying our newest adventure. Both of us having fun with only us! Both of us enjoying each other and taking things up a notch. The intensity is off the charts! You are amazing. You are fun! You are gorgeous, sexy, and beautiful — all in one! You are my precious, lovely bride. My lover. My passion. My dream girl! I am yours and thank you for being mine! I LOVE ALL OF YOU ANNA!”
Other letters saw him close the letter with a “PS” that reminded her to send pictures; one read: “Nice one(s) with your twos in it! (OvO).”
Another read: “PS. I can’t wait till we can be alone again. I miss ALL of you! What bikini, something specificially (sic) are you thinking/dreaming/fantasizing about today that you miss? I miss you and me being US! tell me later?”
Josh is the eldest child of 19 Kids and Counting stars Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.
After a 2019 raid on his Arkansas car dealership, the father-of-six willingly turned himself in on 29 April 2021 with court documents revealing that in May 2019 he had “knowingly received child pornography” and “knowingly possessed material that contained images of child pornography,” including “images of minors under the age of 12”.
Anna stayed by her man during the trial, and they remain married. They are parents to seven children, with their eldest, Mackynzie, 16, and youngest Madyson, four.
The charges came six years after it was alleged that, between 2002 and 2003, when Josh was a teenager, he had molested young girls, including several of his sisters.
Sisters Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joy-Anna all came forward and claimed to be victims; no charges were ever filed.
In March 2026, Josh’s younger brother Joseph was arrested in Arkansas on an alleged child molestation charge that took place in Florida.
Joseph allegedly confessed to his actions to the victim’s father on March 17 and then later “admitted his actions” and said “he touched the victim over her clothing” during a phone call with the father and a detective. Joseph was charged in Florida with lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12 and lewd and lascivious conduct.
Days later, Joseph’s wife, Kendra, was arrested by Tontitown PD after home inspectors allegedly discovered exterior locks on their children’s doors.
Kendra was charged on misdemeanor state charges, including four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment.
Joseph also faces the same charges, in addition to the Florida charges.
In 2015, Jim Bob and Michelle, Joseph’s parents, shared publicly that they had locked their children in their rooms each night after learning their eldest, Josh, had molested his sisters.
Kendra and Joseph have four children, and both were given a no-contact order; Kendra’s was dissolved on April 17, the same day that she and Joseph entered not guilty pleas.
