Justin Trudeau’s eldest son, Xavier, stepped out at the Shawarma Fest in Ottawa in June, giving fans a highly anticipated rap performance while dressed in beige pants and a black tee. The 18-year-old looked suave as he took to the stage at the event while the crowd watched on, listening to his autotune-style rap.

He later shared snaps from the special day on Instagram, before writing: “Shawarma fest, you were fun. Thank you, Ottawa for having me.” Xavier, whom Justin shares with his ex-wife, Sophie Grégoire, is steadily building a name for himself in the music industry after dropping his first single, “‘Til the Nights Done”, in February 2025.

However, the budding star has been heavily scrutinized thanks to his famous dad, who served as Canada’s Prime Minister from 2015 until 2025. “If they don’t like my dad, right away, they don’t like me,” he shared with Vulture. “If you don’t like me because you don’t like my music, and you think it’s the worst thing in the world? Okay, fine. I’ll live with that. But when you don’t even give it a shot? I can’t respect that.”

“It has its benefits, and it has its negatives, like anything has,” he said of Justin’s fame. “You could be the son of a lawyer and have challenges that you’d have to go through. Obviously, mine’s a little bit more specific, but I definitely think it’s a benefit.”

Xavier later shared with GQ that while he felt the pressure of being the politician’s eldest son, he wanted to carve his own path in the music industry. “I did feel pressured,” he explained. “I think that’s why I wanted to do something totally different and obviously change people’s lives, but in my own way…Building a new name for myself and being my own man was a super important thing.”

He continued: “I want to really impact my fans. I want them to really feel the music and get inspired by me, because that’s the way I was inspired. I live for performing. I think as an artist, you can’t be an artist if you don’t love performing.”

Justin and Sophie also share two younger children, Ella-Grace and Hadrien, and were married for 18 years before they parted ways in 2023. The father of three has since moved on with pop star Katy Perry, whom he was first spotted with in July 2025.

Xavier has leaned on Katy for advice about his music career, as she has been a defining figure in pop music since her debut in 2008. “When I’m really happy with a song [I] send it [to her],” he revealed on the Can’t Be Censored podcast. “She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.”

“She is super nice,” he added. “She’s super down to earth. She’s great. I think that my dad’s happy, so that’s important.” The couple are clearly smitten, and Katy shared at the June premiere of her concert film in NYC that she had found “the love of my life”.

“I would say now at the end of [my tour], I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life. I am very in love,” she said during a Q&A session. “Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that, because I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite.”

“I fly super high and like touch the veiled cosmos, and sometimes I need to be anchored, so to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now,” the “California Girls” singer concluded.
