These are not easy days for Karol G’s family. The situation escalated after Verónica Giraldo made public the legal battle she is facing against Jaime Llano, the father of her daughter Sophia, over the child’s custody.
On Monday, February 23, concerns were raised about Verónica’s physical and mental health when she shared a series of videos on Instagram showing injuries to her hand, allegedly sustained while trying to take her daughter from her parents’ home, where Sophia is currently being cared for.
In addition, Verónica accused her family of turning their backs on her during this difficult time. In other posts, she also spoke about alleged domestic violence she and her sisters witnessed during their childhood, claiming that her father, Guillermo Giraldo, physically and emotionally abused their mother, Marta Navarro.
“They’re saying I’m crazy. Until today, I found out that my family is turning their backs on me. It’s very sad that a mother who gave birth didn’t set the example you all think she did, because what you see on social media is a lie. We are not the ideal family,” she said in one of the videos.
Following the accusations and the clips in which she showed her injured hand with visible blood, Verónica’s Instagram account was removed.
Jessica Giraldo speaks out:
Shortly after the posts went live, Jessica Giraldo. Karol G’s other sister and longtime manager, addressed the situation with a public message asking for understanding and privacy as the family navigates what she described as a deeply sensitive moment.
“In recent days, you have seen posts related to my sister Verónica. As a family, we are going through a very sensitive and difficult time, which we have tried to handle with discretion, respect, and a great deal of love for many years,” Jessica wrote.
“Our priority right now is that she receives the support and care she needs, and to protect her well-being and that of her daughter. We ask for empathy, respect, and understanding as we face this as a family. Thank you for your love and for always supporting us.”
Verónica is the eldest of the three sisters. Jessica is the middle sibling and has served as Karol G’s representative throughout much of her career. The youngest, Katherine, is the daughter of their father from a relationship outside his marriage.
Verónica has struggled with depression for some time, and recent events suggest her symptoms may have resurfaced, intensified by the custody dispute with her daughter’s father.
“I wouldn’t wish this on any woman”:
Last week, Verónica addressed her separation from Llano in an emotional and vulnerable video, saying she wouldn’t wish her current situation on anyone.
“You don’t have to prove your feelings to anyone, no matter what happens. What I’m living through, I wouldn’t wish on any woman. It’s very sad to give your love to someone and have that person do everything possible to make you look like the villain,” she said.
“The one I said was the love of my life, the one I always showed. My mistake was being so honest, showing myself exactly as I am, giving him my life, my family, my home, and even telling him about my mental health. Now he’s using that against me.”
In disbelief, she added, “Can you believe he’s going to report me to the authorities?” Verónica is currently fighting for custody of her daughter, a battle she says has left her heartbroken. She also alleged that Llano’s former partner had previously taken similar legal action against him.
“She reported him to the authorities — exactly what he’s about to do to me, his ex-wife did to him,” Verónica claimed. “Jaime’s family, knowing he lived through the same situation, is allowing this to happen to me,” she said, adding that she had even financially helped the Llano family in the past.
Through tears, she concluded, “Someone once told me you don’t fight over men or even over children. And even if it hurts to lose my daughter at some point, one day she will know that I fought very hard for her, that I tried to give her all the love I could, even if I failed as a mother sometimes.”
Verónica, who has been open about her depression, also revealed that her ex allegedly recorded her during her most vulnerable moments and sent those videos to her family.
Relationship struggles began during pregnancy:
In the same video, Verónica said her relationship crisis with Llano began while she was pregnant.
“He left me at five months because of many fights we had. He didn’t care about my symptoms or the bleeding I was experiencing. I developed depression, anxiety, I called him every day, and he said he didn’t want to be with me,” she shared.
