Kate Middleton returns to hospital where she received cancer treatment in elegant green dress

The Princess of Wales revisited a timeless piece from her royal wardrobe for a deeply personal engagement at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

Princess Kate looked elegant in an emerald green midi dress by British label Suzannah London as she spent time with patients, families and hospital staff on Friday, September 11. The meaningful outing marked her return to the hospital where she received cancer treatment in 2024. 

The 44-year-old royal’s vintage-inspired dress featured a softly structured collar, short sleeves, contrasting black buttons and a slim belt that highlighted her waist. Its flowing, ankle-length skirt moved beautifully as Kate walked through the hospital’s corridors.

She completed the polished ensemble with glossy black slingback heels and delicate drop earrings. A sparkling circular pendant added a subtle finishing touch. Kate wore her long brunette hair down in voluminous curls, while her beauty look remained characteristically natural with softly defined eyes, rosy cheeks and a neutral lip.

The princess previously wore the Suzannah London design during Mental Health Awareness Week in 2023, making its return another example of her thoughtful approach to sustainable royal dressing. 

Although her vibrant green dress immediately stood out, the purpose behind Kate’s visit was profoundly personal. She met people currently undergoing treatment and learned more about the hospital’s vision for providing holistic cancer care alongside its clinical services.

Photos shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales showed Kate warmly holding hands with one patient, speaking with medical professionals and listening closely to patients and their loved ones.

“Wonderful to spend time with patients, staff and families at The Royal Marsden Hospital, to see their vision for holistic cancer care first-hand,” the royal couple wrote on Instagram.

Kate was also introduced to plans for a new specialist Centre for Holistic Wellbeing and Recovery. The proposed facility will offer additional support to people throughout treatment, recovery and life beyond a cancer diagnosis.

Funds raised through the Princess’ Three Peaks Challenge will help support the center’s development, enhance patient care and advance research benefiting people living with cancer across the United Kingdom.

Kate quietly completed the demanding challenge in June, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours. The princess undertook the challenge to raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and to highlight the wider physical and emotional effects of serious illness. 

During Friday’s visit, Kate described the fundraising effort as her “small way” of thanking the hospital for its care.

The Princess of Wales announced in January 2025 that she was in remission. That same month, she and Prince William became joint patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, continuing a royal connection first established by Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana.

Kate’s return brought together her personal experience, public work and increasingly purposeful approach to royal dressing, with the hopeful green ensemble providing a fitting visual note for an engagement centered on treatment, recovery and life beyond cancer.
