Kelly Ripa always has the right comeback. The TV icon and host of “Live with Kelly and Mark” had an issue with her makeup, which was sweetly fixed by her husband, Mark Consuelos. She used the moment as the perfect jumping point for a joke.
In an episode of their daytime show, Kelly and Mark were chatting about their friends and how they post updates of their dogs several times a day.
Mark interrupted her, gently pulling a hair that was stuck to her lip gloss. “There we go, so sorry,” he said, prompting awws from the audience.
Ripa quickly converted the sweet gesture into a funny one. “I wanted it there,” she said, making him laugh. “It’s all the rage. People are putting their hair in their lipstick,” she said.
Consuelos agreed with her, saying, “It’s the new look.”
Ripa and Consuelos’ hilarious stories
One of the reasons why Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ show has amassed such a large viewership is due to the couple’s honest and sweet dynamic.
In a previous episode, Consuelos opened up about a gap in his teeth and how he wore a flipper for a while as he waited to be fitted with a permanent implant. “He loved popping the tooth out and just shocking people,” Ripa said, prompting shocked laughs. “Because he becomes a different person entirely. It’s wild.”
“It really was like, ‘In sickness and in health,’ like, they didn’t say anything about dental health!” Ripa continued. “That’s not even in the vows!”
Ripa has been the host of “Live” for 25 years, taking over from Kathy Lee Gifford. She’s co-hosted alongside a variety of partners and is largely responsible for the success and the evolution of the program. As she celebrated the 15th anniversary of the program, she pondered what to do with the rest of her career, sharing some words of wisdom from the queen of daytime TV, Oprah Winfrey.
“She left her show at the 25-year mark, and I said to her, ‘Should this be my signal?’ She’s like, ‘Don’t leave. Don’t do it. Right now, you’ll regret it.’ She said, ‘With you and Mark, the dynamic, the show is more important than ever. People really relate to it, and they need that in this world of a lot of darkness and an endless 24-hour, never-ending news cycle,” she said in an interview with Variety. While the couple may pursue other jobs in the future, they are happy to continue with the show for the time being.
