King Frederik and Queen Mary’s next destination after their summer break has been revealed

King Frederik X and Queen Mary are making the most of a quieter summer before returning to the international stage.

The Danish royal couple is currently spending their annual family holiday at the historic Gråsten Palace in Southern Jutland, a long-standing royal tradition that offers them time away from official engagements with their children. But once the summer comes to an end, their calendar quickly shifts back into full royal mode.

The Danish Royal Court has confirmed that King Frederik and Queen Mary will undertake an official state visit to Belgium from September 8 to 10, traveling at the invitation of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

Belgium becomes the Danish royals’ next major destination:

The three-day visit will begin in Brussels with a ceremonial welcome at the Place des Palais, where the Danish monarchs will be received by the Belgian royal couple.

King Frederik’s schedule also includes meetings with Belgium’s Prime Minister, members of the Federal Parliament, and Brussels’ mayor before the day concludes with a grand state banquet hosted by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde at the Castle of Laeken.

The visit marks one of the Danish royal family’s most significant international engagements since Frederik became king and continues the close relationship between the two European monarchies.

Sustainability, business and cultural ties:

The second day of the visit will focus on environmental cooperation and strengthening economic partnerships between Denmark and Belgium.

King Frederik and Queen Mary will travel to Louvain-la-Neuve in Wallonia to visit Lauzelle Forest and learn about ecological restoration initiatives before returning to Brussels for a business summit bringing together Danish and Belgian leaders from the energy and life sciences sectors.

Their schedule also includes a visit marking the 50th anniversary of the Danish Church in Brussels, followed by an evening reception hosted by the Danish royal couple in honor of their Belgian hosts.

A royal yacht will play a starring role:

The final day takes the royal couple to Antwerp, where they will explore the city’s growing reputation as one of Europe’s leading cultural destinations.

The visit will conclude aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog, the 80-meter vessel that will transport the Danish monarchs to Belgium and dock in Antwerp during the trip.

King Frederik and Queen Mary will host a farewell luncheon on board before setting sail back to Denmark, bringing their official visit to a close.

Enjoying summer before official duties resume:

For now, however, the royal couple remain at Gråsten Palace, where the Danish royal family traditionally spends several weeks each summer enjoying a more private routine punctuated only by occasional local appearances.

Following the holiday, the family is expected to return to Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen in August to resume domestic engagements before departing for what is shaping up to be one of their biggest diplomatic visits of the year.
