Lauren Sánchez Bezos gave a glimpse into her “Met Gala prep” during a fresh interview with Vogue, which was conducted ahead of the Met Ball. She pulled back the curtain on her fitness routine for that day. The helicopter pilot and philanthropist didn’t choose Pilates and green juice but a firefighter training, including heavy gear, and an intense obstacle course.

Jeff Bezos’ wife shared that her approach to getting ready wasn’t about aesthetics alone. “I went to visit the New York Fire Department and did their training,” Lauren Sánchez Bezos explained, describing the regimen.

Inside the Firefighter Workout 

Firefighter training typically includes stair climbs in full gear, hose drills, rescue simulations, and obstacle navigation, all while carrying upwards of 45 pounds of equipment.

That level of physical demand naturally leads to rapid calorie burn and full-body engagement. “We’re talking a whole-ass obstacle course while wearing heavy firefighter gear,” she said, emphasizing just how intense the experience was.

For context, firefighter training is designed to simulate emergency conditions, which tend to include high heat, low visibility, and extreme fatigue. The regimen was created to build cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and mental resilience, and it is also one of the most efficient ways to burn calories quickly.

Lauren confirmed the impact: “It’s probably the most unique Met prep ever. It was bananas, but I loved it. I probably lost about two pounds doing it.”

For her second year at the Met Gala, Jeff Bezos’ wife chose a sleek navy satin mermaid gown from Schiaparelli that featured a structured sweetheart neckline with crystal-embellished straps.

According to the brand, the inspiration behind the gown is “the story of Sargent’s Madame X, and how a small detail, like the fallen jeweled strap, once sparked such strong public reaction.”
