Robert Pattinson is receiving widespread critical acclaim for his performance in Christopher Nolan’s epic blockbuster, The Odyssey. The 40-year-old actor plays the villainous Antinous in the star-studded adaptation of Homer’s 3,000-year-old poem, sharing the screen with Matt Damon, Zendaya and Anne Hathaway.
Robert, who shares a two-year-old daughter with actress and musician Suki Waterhouse, landed his breakout role playing Cedric Diggory in the fantasy film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, before achieving global success as vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight series.
Since then, he’s become a regular fixture on the big-screen, with roles in Tenet, The Batman, The Drama, and of course, The Odyssey. But did you know he isn’t the only famous face in his family? Keep reading to find out more about his family and upbringing, including his musician sister.
Meet Robert’s parents
Robert was born and raised in Barnes, London by his mother Clare, a model scout, and his father Richard, who sold vintage cars.
It was Robert’s parents who set him on his path to stardom by suggesting he join the Barnes Theatre Company at 13, sparking his love of acting.
“I’d had no interest in acting until then but one audition broke the seal,” he told Time Out in 2017. “It was so scary. I hadn’t sung, danced or acted in front of anyone, and suddenly I was doing all three in this audition for ‘Guys and Dolls.'”
Meet Robert’s older sisters
Robert has two older sisters, Victoria and Elizabeth.
“I think they always kinda wished I was a little sister, and I always wanted a little brother,” the actor previously told Seth Meyers in June 2014.
While little is known about Victoria, her sister Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Pattinson has also enjoyed a career in the limelight.
A talented musician, Lizzy’s career highlights include lending her vocals to the 2002 hit Dreaming by Aurora – which reached number 24 on the UK Singles Chart – and collaborating with Milk & Sugar on their 2003 American Billboard chart-topper, Let The Sun Shine.
Lizzy, 42, even contributed backing vocals to the Twilight soundtrack on Carter Burwell’s Who Are They?.
In 2014, the singer competed in the eleventh series of ITV’s singing competition show, The X Factor. Mentored by Simon Cowell, she reached the top 6 of the “over 25s” category before her elimination at Judges’ Houses.
In a previous interview, Lizzy revealed that she’s often looked to her brother for inspiration. “Rob’s not really scared of anything… I can learn a lot from him, because he’s not afraid of anything and he’s very confident in himself,” she told Absolute Radio in 2010. “He inspires me quite a lot, actually.”
