If you heard loud screaming today, it was probably millennials everywhere watching the promotional video for Hannah Montana’s 20th Anniversary Special. Disney+ dropped the trailer, and it is pure nostalgia.
In the video, Miley Cyrus returns to her old set wearing her iconic Hannah Montana wig. “Already getting emotional,” she says. The special includes a sit-down interview hosted by Alex Cooper of Call Her Daddy, plus the music that made her a generation-defining star.
She flips through old wardrobe pieces with her mom, Tish, and shares a traditional hip bump in the living room set with her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, as a new-era version of “This Is the Life” plays in the background.
© Disney+“This anniversary is for them, it’s for us,” Miley says as a crowd of young women – the live audience who likely grew up on the show – rush the venue. “This feels like home to me,” the now 33-year-old says.
The special premieres on Disney+ on March 24.
Needless to say, social media is spiraling. “I’m shaking, crying, I can’t believe this is real life,” one fan wrote. “Between this and Hilary Duff 😭 the girls came back to save us,” said another.
As for other cast appearances, from the clip, it looks like it’s just Billy Ray. According to IMDb, the special “follows Miley Cyrus in an interview with Alex Cooper, revisiting the moments, music, and memories of Hannah Montana with never-before-seen archival footage and recreated sets from the show.” The only credited names so far are Cooper and Cyrus.
Not everyone is sold on the interview format, though. “20 years for a Call Her Daddy interview?” reads one viral TikTok, with some fans side-eyeing the choice. Others were hoping for an actual TV episode.
Hannah Montana’s impact
© GettyThe iconic series originally debuted in March 2006 on Disney Channel, and anniversary buzz has been building since July 2025. Miley dropped just enough breadcrumbs to send fans into a frenzy.
By the end of that month, Google Trends showed searches for “Hannah Montana anniversary” spiking +4,900%, making it the top trending “anniversary” term. Breakout searches included “Is Miley Cyrus bringing back Hannah Montana?” and, of course, “Is Hannah Montana going on tour?”
© GettyBack in March 2021, Miley marked the 15th anniversary with a heartfelt letter “to Hannah” on Instagram. “Hi Hannah, it’s been a while. 15 years exact. Since the first time I slid those blonde bangs over my forehead in the best attempt to conceal my identity,” she wrote.
“I didn’t know then… that is where you would live forever. Not just in mine but millions of people around the world.”
She reflected on growing up on set – losing her puppy and her grandpa during season one – and even shared an embarrassing story about getting her period in white capris the day a “cute guy” was cast and asked her to lunch. “Instead, I spent it in the bathroom with my mom sobbing + scrambling to find a pair of fresh denim,” she admitted.
At the end of the show’s run, she said it was “bittersweet” to leave Stage 9, the place she called home. “Hannah I hope you hear me + believe those words are true. You have all my love and utmost gratitude… Breathing life into you for those six years was an honor.”
