Nicolas Cage is celebrating his new TV show with his wife, Riko Shibata. The couple, who got married in 2021 at a Las Vegas ceremony, made a rare public appearance earlier this week at the premiere of “Spider-Noir,” Cage’s anticipated new TV show.
Cage and Shibata attended the premiere in matching black outfits, in-theme with “Spider-Noir’s” mood. The couple walked hand in hand on the red carpet, posing for different photographs. While Cage opted for a black suit, a white button-up, and a dark navy tie, Shibata wore a black lace dress with white sleeves. She completed the look with some green nails.
This marks their first joint public outing in over a year.
Cage’s anticipated ‘Spider-Man’ story
“Spider-Noir” is Cage’s latest project, revolving around a character that he’s been involved with for years now. The TV show is an extension of the “Into the Spider-Verse” films, where Cage voiced the character of Spider-Noir, a mysterious detective with spider powers who’s got a broody and tortured aura, with a very different vibe from the rest of the Spider-Men.
The series is set in New York in the 1930’s, during the Great Depression, following Ben Reilly (Cage), a private detective and investigator who’s given up his alter ego as the Spider after experiencing a traumatic event. The cast is rounded out by Brendan Gleeson, Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, and Jack Huston.
Cage and Shibata’s love story
Cage, 62, and Shibata, 31, fell in love fast. The pair met in early 2020, getting engaged shortly after. In an appearance on his brother Marc Coppola‘s radio show, Cage discussed their relationship, revealing that their engagement was done over FaceTime.
“We were really happy together, and we were really excited to spend that time together, so I finally just said, ‘Look, I wanna marry you,’ and we got engaged on FaceTime,” he said. The pair got married at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas the following year.
Shibata is Cage’s fifth wife. He was previously married to Patricia Arquette, Lisa Marie Presley, Alice Kim, and Erika Koike. “I know five [wives] is a lot, but I think I got it right this time,” he said in a 2022 interview with the Los Angeles Times.
