Prince Harry has joined the chorus of royals sharing their disappointment after England was knocked out by Argentina in a pivotal semi-final match.
Shortly after concluding his trip to the UK, the Duke of Sussex made a solo trip to the Time100 Sports Gala where he was asked by Page Six if he was disappointed with the result. “Of course,” Harry replied.
Although England will no longer be able to claim the ultimate glory, they will be hoping for third place when they take on France on Saturday evening.
Although Harry is known to prefer watching rugby, he’s previously confessed that domestically, he’s a fan of Arsenal FC. The royal also claimed that many members of the family backed the London-based team.
How did the royals respond to the loss?
Although Prince William didn’t head to any games during the tournament, reportedly prioritising his family, he was quick to share a message of support for the Three Lions following the result.
rince of Wales said: “Gutted. England, you gave it everything and we are all so proud of you. Thank you to everyone on and off the pitch, for an incredible tournament. The fight and belief you have shown has inspired us all. The most complete England team in a tournament. Hold your heads high.”
William is one of the team’s most ardent fans, often sharing messages congratulating the team after their wins or commiserating with them after a loss. Following their hotly contested face-off against crowd favorites Norway in the quarter finals, William tweeted: “Well done England!
“Top performance in a tough environment. This is a special team. Commiserations to a proud Norway team. Onto the semi final… Never in doubt!”
King Charles has also referenced England’s defeat as he joked about “drown[ing] a few sorrows” during a trip to a brewery in Blandford on Thursday.
Before tasting the 3.4% popular ale, the King said with a wry smile: “Maybe it’s a good day to drown a few sorrows,” which prompted much laughter and a round of applause from onlookers.
