She may be the Princess Royal, but Princess Anne is the true queen of Wimbledon fashion if her sartorial archives are anything to go by.
The senior royal, 75, may not be a regular attendee of the annual tennis tournament, but there are a number of stand-out moments from when she has been in days gone by.
Cast your minds back to 1969, the equestrian took on official duties by presenting the Women’s Singles Trophy to Ann Jones, but it wasn’t her starring role that has our attention.
No, it was the killer chequered minidress Anne chose to wear for the occasion, which has left us mesmerised.
The piece in question was a collared, long-sleeve dress, which Anne paired with an oversized hat complete with a polka-dot scarf.
The royal’s look was complete with a pair of ultra-stylish kitten heels that are on-trend even now, decades later. The pointed-toe slingbacks featured a narrow heel and were adorned with large bows.
Why doesn’t Anne attend Wimbledon often?
As a passionate equestrian, royal fans don’t often get to see Princess Anne step inside the royal box in the same way she regularly attends horse events alongside her fellow equestrian daughter, Zara Tindall.
While there have been reports that the royal has expressed her distaste for the sport, allegedly referring to it as “cauldron-like” according to one royal author, she appears to have followed in the footsteps of her mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Over her 70-year reign, Queen Elizabeth, who, despite being appointed patron of the tournament, only attended four times in total.
Which royals have attended Wimbledon this year?
2026 has been a stellar year for the Championships with tennis and royal fans alike treated to a number of appearances from various members of the British royal family.
Day ten of the tournament saw Queen Camilla attend the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club alongside her sister, Annabel Elliot.
The sister duo were joined by Peter Phillips and his new wife, Harriet Phillips, who looked simply marvellous in a lime green and pink dress by her wedding dress designer, Emelia Wickstead.
Also enjoying the on-court action on Thursday were Zara and Mike Tindall, although they did not join Zara’s brother and the Queen in the royal box. Instead, the Rugby player and his royal wife were caught in fits of laughter with Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell and her former F1 husband, Christian Horner.
Other royal attendees thus far have included the Princess of Wales, Princess Diana’s nieces, Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza Spencer and the Duke of Kent.
