Queen Anne-Marie fulfilled a special wish by visiting Greenland for the first time.

The striking image was captured during a recent journey that allowed the birthday royal to fulfill a special wish. According to the Danish Royal House, Anne-Marie visited Greenland for the first time earlier in August, traveling to Nuuk and Ilulissat.

The trip held an especially meaningful connection to her family. It was a gift from Anne-Marie’s two sisters, Queen Margrethe of Denmark and Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.

Her youngest daughter, Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, accompanied her on the Arctic getaway, turning the experience into a memorable mother-daughter adventure.

In the newly released photograph, Anne-Marie appeared relaxed and radiant while posing against the dramatic frozen landscape. Dressed warmly in a brown puffer jacket layered over a gray turtleneck, the Queen smiled at the camera as the glacier stretched across the background.

The understated portrait offered royal watchers a refreshingly personal look at Anne-Marie, whose milestone birthday comes after a life closely connected to several of Europe’s royal families.

Born a Danish princess on August 30, 1946, Anne-Marie is the youngest daughter of King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark. She married King Constantine II of Greece in Athens in 1964, becoming Queen of the Hellenes at just 18 years old.

The couple welcomed five children. Princess Alexia, Crown Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos, Princess Theodora and Prince Philippos.

King Constantine died in January 2023 at the age of 82 following nearly six decades of marriage. Anne-Marie has since remained surrounded by their children and growing family while continuing to join her Danish relatives for important royal occasions.
