Queen Mary received a warm welcome upon her arrival at Momentet, where she met with young adults and learned more about their everyday lives and aspirations.

Rather than a traditional palace reception or ceremonial appearance, the visit saw Mary sitting alongside residents in their everyday surroundings and engaging in candid conversations about their lives, goals and dreams.

The Danish Royal House shared a glimpse inside the visit, revealing that “hopes and dreams for the future” were among the subjects Mary discussed with Momentet’s young residents.

Mary visited the residence in her role as patron of the Diakonissestiftelsen, the organization behind Momentet. For more than 160 years, the foundation has provided care and support to people at different stages of life.

An intimate look inside Queen Mary’s visit:

During the engagement, the Queen was given a tour of the residence and had the opportunity to see how its residents are supported in their daily lives.

Mary also participated in what the Royal House described as a goal-setting meeting, where one resident and members of Momentet’s staff reviewed specific steps toward greater quality of life and self-sufficiency.

The engagement also included a musical performance in the residence’s communal living room, adding another personal element to an outing noticeably removed from the grandeur often associated with royal duties.

Photos released by the Royal House captured Mary interacting closely with residents, including sitting beside them on a sofa and posing for a group photograph.

Queen Mary’s relaxed royal style:

The more informal surroundings were reflected in Mary’s wardrobe. The Queen paired wide-leg blue jeans with a crisp white blouse and dark brown blazer, finishing the ensemble with playful leopard-print flats.

Her relaxed look was a departure from the dresses, tailored suits and formal accessories frequently seen during major royal engagements, while still maintaining her signature polished style.

The outing highlighted a quieter side of Mary’s work as Queen, with the focus not on ceremony but on listening to the experiences and ambitions of the people she met.

And for an afternoon away from palace surroundings, the conversation ultimately centered on something universal, what comes next and the hopes young people have for their futures.
