Dua Lipa and Callum Turner tied the knot not once but twice this year, first with an intimate ceremony attended by just eight guests before hosting a lavish £1.5 million wedding celebration in Sicily.
The couple exchanged vows at Old Marylebone Town Hall before heading to Italy to celebrate with 300 family and countless celebrity friends. Among those in attendance were Charli xcx, Troye Sivan, Joe Alwyn, Mark Ronson and Elton John.
But while the couple’s glittering guest list was packed full of famous faces, there was one notable absence during the Italian festivities. Callum’s dad, Laurence Cole, was reportedly not present at the Sicilian celebration as he was busy attending the wedding of Spandau Ballet drummer John Keeble’s daughter, Jamie Rae Keeble, in north London.
A source told The Sun that Laurence, who has an “estranged” relationship with his son Callum, kept a “low profile”. According to the source, some people questioned the groom’s father attending a different wedding.
Callum, 36, has previously spoken of the “loose” relationship he has with his father.
Callum’s relationship with his dad
At the time of his birth in 1990, Callum’s parents were unmarried and living in separate homes. The actor’s father emigrated to Australia shortly after he was born, leaving him to be raised almost exclusively by his mother at their council house in Chelsea, West London.
Laurence, who previously worked as a plasterer in London, jetted off to the Southern Hemisphere to retrain as a psychotherapist, where he met his partner and started a new family. Laurence has since returned to the UK, where he now practices therapy from his home in Hastings.
© News Group Newspapers LtdHowever, more recently, the father and son have begun to forge a closer bond. Callum was pictured enjoying a family dinner with his father only last Christmas. According to reports, friends of Laurence have described him as “unashamedly proud of Callum.”
Despite not having his father there to welcome him into married life, Callum’s mother, Rose, and younger half-siblings, Clemmie and Louis, were proud guests at the nuptials.
The actor and his popstar bride were married for the second time at 18th-century Villa Valguarnera in Palermo.
