Robert Irwin’s extraordinary rise from wildlife warrior to television superstar has reached another milestone.

The 22-year-old has officially been announced as the host of the 2026 TV Week Logie Awards, taking over from comedian and television presenter Sam Pang, who fronted Australia’s night of nights for three consecutive years.

For Robert, the opportunity is a dream come true. Speaking to TV Week following the announcement, the Australia Zoo star admitted the role is one of the most exciting opportunities he has ever been offered.

“It’s one of the most exciting things I’ve ever been asked to do,” he said.

“Throughout my life, my goal has been to spread an important message not only through our work at Australia Zoo, but also on the screen.”

The honour carries particular significance for Robert, who grew up watching the annual awards ceremony alongside his family.

“I grew up watching the Logies with my family, so this is certainly an honour,” he explained.

“Australian television has given so much to so many people. To be part of the biggest night in Aussie TV is something I don’t take lightly. I cannot wait.”

The announcement comes after months of speculation surrounding who would step into Sam Pang’s shoes following his hugely successful three-year stint as host.

While a number of television personalities were tipped for the role, Robert’s name consistently appeared among industry favourites.

His appointment reflects just how quickly he has become one of Australia’s most popular and recognisable television stars.

Although many Australians first met Robert through his work at Australia Zoo and the conservation legacy left by his father, the late Steve Irwin, his career has evolved dramatically in recent years.

His role as co-host of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! showcased his natural charisma and ease in front of the camera, helping introduce him to an even broader audience.

But it was his success in the United States that truly elevated his profile to another level. Late last year, Robert captured international attention when he won the American version of Dancing With the Stars, winning over audiences with his charm, determination and surprisingly polished dance moves.

The victory transformed him into a global star virtually overnight. Since then, he has continued with a growing list of television opportunities on both sides of the Pacific.

Among them is a new spin-off of Dancing With the Stars, which Robert is set to host for Hulu next month. He is also continuing to expand his presence on Australian television and will appear this week on MasterChef Australia as a special guest judge.

The Logies themselves are familiar territory for Robert. In 2024, he earned nominations for both the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter and the coveted Gold Logie Award, cementing his status as one of the country’s most beloved television personalities.
