Sarah Ferguson Prepares to Close the Royal Family’s Revenge-Interview Trilogy — and Names Her Price: Control, Not Cash

Sarah Ferguson has come home. After months away, moving between a Swiss ski chalet, a luxury Zurich recovery clinic, and stops across Europe and the Gulf, the woman once known as the Duchess of York is back on British soil. The timing is no accident: friends say she’s finally ready to break her silence on the Jeffrey Epstein scandal that cost her nearly everything.

If she does, it won’t just be another royal sit-down interview; the moment will be the third chapter in a very specific genre: the British royal family’s “revenge interview.”

The first of these moments came in 1995, when Diana, Princess of Wales, sat across from Martin Bashir on the BBC’s Panorama and told a stunned nation the truth about her husband’s infidelity. The second arrived in 2021, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat with Oprah Winfrey to lay out, on American soil, their version of life inside the Royal Institution.

There’s no date yet for the third installment, but Sarah Ferguson appears to have attached her name to it.

The couple divorced in under a decade but maintained close ties

To understand why her testimony would carry so much weight, it helps to go back to the beginning. Ferguson was married to the then-Prince Andrew for almost a decade. Together they had Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice of York. The marriage ended, but the divorce didn’t. For years, Andrew and Sarah were considered the happiest exes in the world, continuing to live together at Royal Lodge and turning up side by side at royal events. Then Jeffrey Epstein, the financier convicted of sex crimes against minors, entered the frame, and everything that had been carefully maintained fell apart.

Epstein’s death in 2019 was the first tremor. That’s when scrutiny began settling on Queen Elizabeth II’s third child over his ties to the convicted offender, a slow-building crisis that eventually pushed him out of royal life entirely and stripped him of his titles. Sarah’s own reckoning came later. For a long stretch, she managed to stay out of the blast radius. Then a year ago, a batch of leaked emails implicated her, exposing the extent of her friendship with Epstein. It set off a chain reaction that hasn’t stopped since, resulting in her and her ex-husband’s departure from the Royal Lodge.

At the height of the fallout, Ferguson left the UK and resettled in Verbier, the Swiss resort town where she and Andrew once kept a home. This time, she was staying at the home of Paddy McNally, her former partner, who died in July at 88.

Before Verbier, Ferguson spent time at the Paracelsus Recovery Clinic in Zurich. Now, with her return to Britain, that period of exile appears to be over. By most accounts, she’s preparing to tell her side of things.

An interview, a documentary, or both

The idea of Ferguson going on camera has been circulating for months, and it now looks close to becoming reality.

“Fergie has received a flood of requests from around the world to give interviews, especially from the big streaming platforms, to tell her side of the story,” reports The Sun. The former duchess seems to be weighing her options carefully, and whatever she chooses will have to meet one non-negotiable condition: keeping editorial control matters more than the size of the paycheck.

The same reporting suggests that a sit-down interview and a documentary could be in play, and notes that Ferguson, mother of the York princesses, has a tight, well-connected inner circle she can draw from when the moment comes. She’s expected to hand her story to someone she already trusts: “She would only let someone she knew well tell her story.”

Whatever she decides, it won’t be Ferguson’s first time in front of a camera. In 2006, she fronted “The Duchess on the Estate,” working in some of the country’s most poverty-stricken areas; two years later, she tackled food insecurity in “The Duchess in Hull”; and in 2009, she teamed up with her daughters for “The Duchess and Daughters: Their Secret Mission.”
