If you were hoping to spice up your life this year, there is some sad news. For the Spice Girls fans crossing their fingers for a full-blown 30th anniversary tour in 2026, it’s not happening, at least not now.
After months of talk about celebrating three decades since “Wannabe” changed pop history after its release in the UK on July 8, 1996, the Spice Girls reunion plans have officially stalled. And this time, the confirmation came straight from Sporty herself, per The Sun.
Speaking on KIIS Radio in Australia, Melanie C didn’t dance around it. “No, there is no reunion,” she said bluntly. Still, she made it clear the door isn’t closed forever: “We are communicating all the time. We want to do something – who knows when. But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”
There were discussions about concerts, and a rumored project with Netflix was reportedly in development before being shelved. Behind the scenes, timing and agreement seem to have been the sticking points.
The anniversary momentum had been building. In October, Victoria Beckham even said it would be “tempting” to reunite for a Vegas residency at the Sphere.
In February, amid the Beckham family debacle, Victoria’s son Cruz shared a video of Emma Lee Bunton, Melani, Geri Halliwell, and his mom at the table singing, “Viva Forever” with the cheeky caption, “think i found my openers… Do you think they have potential? something exciting coming later today 😉 keep an eye out and get involved.”
The Beckham family feud even had Victoria’s song “Not Such an Innocent Girl,” shot No.1 after its release 25 years ago. When the drama about Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding went viral, the internet quipped that a Spice Girls reunion would be the only way to get the public distracted.
Jokes aside, getting all five on the same page has never been simple. The last time all five shared a stage was over 10 years ago at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony.
Victoria famously opted out of the 2019 stadium tour, choosing to focus on fashion and her business empire. That tour, featuring Mel C, Mel B, Bunton, and Halliwell, still sold out 13 dates and moved around 700,000 tickets. The demand has never been the issue.
Mel C has also spoken openly about how emotional the 2019 shows were, how much more present they felt, and how deeply they appreciated what the group means to people now. For now, the only confirmed 30th celebration is a commemorative coin release. Not exactly a stadium spectacle.
