Tyler Robinson was named the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. In an interview that aired on September 12, 2025, Donald Trump revealed who turned the 22-year-old Utah resident into the authorities: Robinson’s father.
“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him — in custody,” Trump told Fox News before adding that “everyone did a great job we worked with the local police, the governor, everybody did a great job.”

Robinson’s mother is Amber Jones Robinson, and his other is Matt Robinson, according to multiple outlets. Amber previously attended the University of Utah, and Matt is a veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
During Trump’s Fox News interview, the president pointed out that “somebody that’s close” to Robinson recognized him from the images released by the FBI.
“And somebody that was very close to him said ‘hm, that’s him’ and essentially went to the father, went to a US Marshal,” the Republican added.

The New York Post reported that Robinson’s inner circle claimed he was “full of hate.” Furthermore, Robinson reportedly admitted to his father that he was the gunman in Kirk’s shooting.
