Prince William is using one of his least popular names. The Prince of Wales was recently celebrating St. Piran’s Day, a holiday in Cornwall that commemorates the heritage and culture of the locals.
Prince William visited the county as the Duke of Cornwall, the title he inherited from King Charles, once he ascended to the British throne following Queen Elizabeth’s death.
As the head of the Duchy, William receives around $30.9 million a year, providing income to cover the official, charitable, and private expenses of his family, including his wife and three kids.
On March 5th, William stopped by Cornwall, honoring the resilience of the area, which has been recently affected by storms. In recent months, storms cut off electricity to 50,000 homes. 15,000 of them lost their water supply, reports PEOPLE.
He stopped by various spots, including an organic farm that houses an award-winning bakery, with Prince William meeting and greeting the staff while also learning the basics of pastry making. Later, he visited a fire station, thanking the firefighters and emergency workers for their efforts during the storm.
The Duchy of Cornwall’s secretary, Will Bax, discussed some of William’s work as the Duke. “He’s easy to follow because he’s got great conviction and personality, and he really wears his heart on his sleeve in terms of social interest and his desire to have a positive impact in the world,” he said to The Telegraph.
Prince William indirectly addresses Prince Andrew scandal
In past weeks, British royals have been facing some of the most challenging moments as a family. In February, Prince Andrew was arrested and later released due to his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, which the British government is currently investigating.
Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the BAFTA Awards, where he was asked about “Hamnet,” one of this year’s nominees, described as one of the most intense and emotional films of the season.
“I need to be in quite a calm state, and I am not at the moment. I will save it,” he said in an interview on the red carpet. He shared that his wife had seen it. “Floods of tears,” he said.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Middleton shared that she watched the film shortly before attending the show. “I thought it was a bad idea, actually. Ended up with very puffy eyes,” she said, praising the film.
