80s star Grace Jones is a vision in all-black ensemble as she makes rare appearance at Wimbledon

Grace Jones dominated the 1980s thanks to her androgynous style and vocal prowess that brought us hits like Private Life and Slave to the Rhythm.

However, since her heyday, Grace hasn’t occupied the spotlight in the same way, although she made a head-turning appearance at Wimbledon on Friday.

Despite the soaring temperatures, Grace decided not to shy away from her signature black outfits. The stunning ensemble featured semi-sheer sleeves and trousers, alongside a matching top and sky-high heels.

Grace did go for pops of colour for her accessories, wearing a pretty floral wide-brimmed hat and a rainbow necklace that featured an angel. In a separate bid to keep cool, the A View to a Kill star also brought a black folding fan with her.

Grace was last at Wimbledon in 2024 when the star was with fellow actresses Robin Wright and Zawe Ashton. On this occasion, Grace looked phenomenal in a blue buttoned outfit, and she showed off a hilarious variety of facial expressions while watching the on-court action.

Grace Jones’ signature look

Speaking in 1983 about her androgynous fashion sense, she said: “It’s just like being a saint and being a devil. Everyone has parts of their mother and parts of their father, or whatever male influence you had growing up, or whatever female influence you had growing up. There’s a lot of kids without fathers and without mothers but they still have somebody, a man and a woman at some time in their lives, who plays a large role in their lives. And I think that we all take things from them.

“And then there are certain things that are all inborn from birth that are both. And that’s why I think in some people it is stronger. Some people realise more that it exists, and can develop it more.”

When asked whether she tries to represent saints and devils, Grace replied: “I try to keep pretty good, I don’t like bad vibrations. I don’t like to be bad but there are times when it does take over, whether you’re getting drunk or you feel like you want to do yourself in, out of guilt, maybe in your past, things that may come up where you don’t feel 100% right with yourself and you want to just destroy yourself. Those are little devils.

“And I think everyone has that. We all get to a point, and a lot of religious people might get down and pray at that moment, but they’re actually feeling these things.”
