Whether it’s for health reasons or a personal goal, several A-list stars who had their heyday in the ’80s have opened up about their decision to lose weight.

Chaka Khan has been a vegan since she was 20 years old

Where would we be without the culture-shifting tack ‘I’m Every Woman’? Chaka Khan even got a soundtrack cameo in Bridget Jones’ Diary, proving that the singer’s feel-good tunes are still giving us all a confidence boost today.
Chaka Khan noticeably lost some weight in 2012 and explained on The Wendy Williams Showthe same year that the year prior she’d been on a two-month liquid diet. The star singer is also a long-time vegan, with the occasional exception made for “a little baked fish”.
Boy George started taking Ozempic following a tummy tuck surgery

Boy George is best-known for ’80s Culture Club hits like ‘Karma Chameleon’ and ‘Time (Clock of the Heart)’. The singer has been open about his cosmetic surgery in memoir Karma: My Autobiography.
Following three hair transplants between 2015 and 2018, George underwent a tummy tuck which he called “the most painful thing” he’d ever done. Following the surgery, he started taking Ozempic in 2022 but later switched to Mounjaro.
Alison Moyet went from a size 22 to a size 10 ahead of her return to the music industry

Singer Alison Moyet took a break from the stage in the ’90s, returning to the industry with an album release in 2002. In 2013, she explained that her weight loss journey was due to health reasons.
Alison changed from a size 22 to a size 10 but says she’s gone “too far”. She told The Mirrorin 2013: “Personally I think women look better with a bit of chub on them. I’ve lost too much weight and I’m currently working very hard on getting fatter again.”
Whoopi Goldberg has been transparent about her weight loss journey

Ghost star Whoopi Goldberg has been characterfully honest and compassionate in speaking about weight loss – her own and wider pressures. She told The Viewthat Mounjaro had played a part in her weight loss, explaining: I will tell you, I weighed almost 300 lbs. when I made Till.”
She added: “Maybe the key is to stop judging everybody. My weight has come and gone and up and down, but it’s never been an issue for me because I don’t listen to what other people say about me.”
John Goodman started his weight loss journey in 2007

’80s and ’90s star of Roseanne, John Goodman started losing weight in 2007 and has lost 200 lbs. with the help of a healthy diet and exercise routine.
He’s since joked to AARP about the transformation, saying: “I don’t want to be an example to anybody when the weight comes thundering back on — when I start eating Crisco out of the can with a spoon and a side of confectioner’s sugar.”
