Blue Ivy Carter surprised fans on Friday July 10 as she took to the stage during the opening night of Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium concert in NYC.
The 14-year-old was introduced onto the stage after footage of her playing the piano as a little girl was projected onto the screen, accompanied by Jay-Z’s song, “Glory”, which he wrote about fatherhood, shortly after Blue was born.
Blue played the piano as her dad performed “Feelin’ It,” as he told the crowd: “Make some noise for the legendary Blue Ivy Carter”.
Blue’s proud grandmother, Tina Knowles, shared footage from the special moment on social media shortly after the concert, admitting that it had left her “in tears”.
She wrote: “This had me in tears. The close bond , love and respect that this father and daughter have for each other is contagious . Our little Blue Blue on Keys . ‘Baby I paint the sky Blue My greatest creation was you Blue,’ ‘Glory’.”
Blue’s family have opened up about her piano playing ability on several occasions, with Jay-Z recently telling GQ that his daughter didn’t want to get a teacher as she enjoys playing for pleasure.
“She won’t let us get her a teacher. She doesn’t want it to be a job. But she has perfect pitch. If she hears a song, she’ll be like ‘Play it again’ and then she’ll teach herself,” he said.
© Instagram“That’s just talent. She doesn’t work at that. She worked at this [dancing on stage], and it makes me proud that she fought for something that she really wanted to do. I don’t think we’re going to be able to get her off that stage now.”
While this was the first time joining her dad on stage, Blue is no stranger to participating in Beyoncé’s concerts. Fans have enjoyed seeing her journey from her very first performance during the Renaissance World Tour back in 2023, to the Cowboy Carter Tour in 2025 – where she was one of the backup dancers.
© FilmMagicJay reflected on Blue’s growth, adding: “That was amazing. On the first tour, there was a lot of conversation around her first performance, and she worked really hard to get to that point, but she still wasn’t going for it.
“She still was going through the motions. And then she just started fighting back,” he continued. “I saw her fight maybe for the first time in her life – like, not everything is just given to her and everything is easy. She fought for it.”

Jay-Z’s sold-out three-night residency took place from July 10-12. Along with Blue, it featured many surprise performances from artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Alicia Keys and his mentor, Jaz-O.
