Britney Spears was notably absent from a rare Spears family reunion over the weekend as relatives gathered to celebrate niece Maddie Aldridge’s high school graduation.
According to photos obtained by the Daily Mail, several members of the famously complicated family came together for the special occasion, including Britney’s parents Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears, sister Jamie Lynn Spears and Britney’s eldest son, Sean Preston Federline.
The gathering marked a rare public reunion for the family, who have experienced years of tension following Britney’s conservatorship battle and strained relationships with several relatives.
Jamie Lynn’s daughter Maddie, 17, was celebrated as she graduated high school, with the proud mum reportedly becoming emotional during the ceremony.
The actress and singer wore a black mini dress with dramatic white puff sleeves, while Lynne, 71, opted for a cream dress paired with a matching blazer.
Meanwhile, Jamie Spears, 73, attended in a grey suit after previously undergoing a leg amputation in 2023 following a serious infection.
Britney’s son Sean Preston, 20, kept things casual in a white polo shirt and was seen proudly holding up a photograph of his cousin during the commencement exercises.
Jamie Lynn’s youngest daughter, Ivey Watson, eight, was also photographed pushing her grandfather’s wheelchair through the crowd.
Britney, however, did not appear to attend the event.
Her absence comes during a turbulent period for the pop superstar, who has recently faced renewed public scrutiny following legal troubles earlier this year.
The Grammy-winning singer reportedly pleaded guilty to a lesser charge connected to a DUI-related arrest from March after accepting a “wet reckless” plea deal – a reduced charge often offered in first-time cases or situations involving no injuries.
As part of the agreement, Britney is reportedly required to complete a three-month alcohol education program and was handed informal probation.
“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct,” her attorney Michael Goldstein said in a statement following the hearing. “She has taken significant steps to implement positive change.”
Britney has remained largely estranged from parts of her family since the end of her conservatorship in 2021, though there have occasionally been signs of reconciliation in recent years.
The singer famously accused several relatives – including Jamie Lynn and her father Jamie – of benefiting from the conservatorship that controlled many aspects of her life for more than 13 years.
