During the July 10 instalment of the Today Show faced an unexpected host switch-up. Dylan Dreyer and Al Roker were noticeably absent from the Third Hour, with Craig Melvin joined by Laura Jarrett and Savannah Sellers. Meteorologist Angie Lassman also appeared to deliver the weather report.
However, it seems Craig wasn’t fazed by the absence of his regular co-stars. “You know, I kind of miss them being here though; I want Al or Dylan so we can do the whole weather team unite,” said Angie.
“What do they say?” asked Laura. “The weather team assembled,” replied Craig.
Laura then proceeded to share that Al and Dylan use music when presenting their infamous chant. “I’m glad they’re not here,” said Craig, to which Angie replied: “You said it, not me.”

Craig joined as a regular host on the NBC show following Hoda Kotb’s departure in January 2025. Since Craig’s permanent role on the show, he and Al have enjoyed a playful relationship and often jokingly call each other out on the show for their behind-the-scenes behavior.
© NBC / TODAYAl previously spoke to HELLO! about the great dynamic he shares with his co-stars. “The great thing about the Today Show is that the sum is greater than its equal parts,” he shared. “They’ve all subbed, they’ve all stepped in, and we don’t miss a beat. So no matter what happens, we’re going to be in great shape,” Al ensured, noting that the show, which has been on the air since 1952, is “built to evolve.”
He continued: “Each one of us is very fortunate to be in this position, for however long we have, and then we pass the baton off to somebody else. So the future of the show is just as strong and bright no matter who steps in.”
Dylan Dreyer’s absence
On the July 9 episode, Dylan was away from the studio as she joined co-star Carson Daly in Lake Tahoe, NV, at the 37th annual American Century Championship for golf enthusiasts.
© GC Images“Carson, you just said ‘no one’s messing around.’ That’s all I’m doing – is messing around. My golf game stinks. I’m usually in last place here but part of the fun is exactly that vibe,” Dylan said during the episode.
The NBC hosts shared that although she’s out on the field at the fun “adult summer camp,” she’s not competing this year. “Here’s the thing…guys I’m not even playing this year. I’m not even playing this year because my niece is getting married in Oregan, so someone else is gonna have to pull up this year – not me,” she shared.
