Diane von Fürstenberg looks far from 79, thanks to her glowing and radiant skin.
The fashion designer knows a thing or two about beauty, and she exclusively spoke with HELLO! to share her secret during the Annual Global Leadership Awards in NYC, hosted by Vital Voices.
The festive ceremony celebrated international women leaders from a plethora of careers, who are leaving an impact on the world, and changing it for the better.
During Diane’s red carpet appearance, she candidly expressed that having an ageless look comes from the inside-out.
She revealed: “I think the most important thing is [to] have a great relationship with yourself.”
Diane emphasized: “That’s the most important thing, because if you have a good relationship with yourself, any other relationship is a plus and not a must.”
Diane’s decades-long marriage
Looks like Diane aced self-love being that she’s been in a successful decades-long relationship with her husband Barry Diller.
She shared: “My love with Barry is 50 years, not 25. 25 [that we’ve been] married, but we fell in love 50 years ago.”
The style icon also revealed that the secret to their thriving bond is their shared love language of affirmations, as she comically shared: “Well, he gets a lot of credit.”
Diane’s career
Believe it or not, but fashion wasn’t always in Diane’s cards. In fact, the fashion designer studied economics at the University of Geneva.
She decided to go down a different path post-graduation by moving to Paris and taking a job as an assistant to Albert Koski, who was the agent of a fashion photographer.
After that, she moved to Italy to start an apprenticeship for Angelo Ferretti, who was a textile manufacturer. It was during that time that she made her first silk dress.
She then moved overseas to New York, where she met Diana Vreeland, who was a known editor at Vogue.
In 1974, she created her signature look which was a “wrap dress” and it made a huge statement in the fashion industry. That design skyrocketed her career and the rest was history.
Over the years she has also launched her own line of perfume, cosmetics, beachwear, scarves, fine jewelry and more.
The fashion designer’s documentary Diane von Fürstenberg: Woman in Charge was released in 2024.
